AFP Chicago Fellows Program Applications NOW OPEN
Deadline is November 1, 2024
AFP Chicago’s objective is to offer our educational resources and the collective professional expertise of our diverse membership – in accessible and user-friendly formats – to assist individuals in building communities through philanthropy as well as building professional fundraising skills.
The Fellows Program is an outreach initiative of AFP Chicago created to build awareness of educational and professional resources.
| |
Individuals who have been in the profession for five years or less, including those who have recently transitioned to fundraising from other professions, are encouraged to take advantage of the program's offerings. The Fellows Program strives to identify those participants who might not have access to such opportunities or resources outside the program.
This program reflects AFP Chicago’s commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, and access (IDEA), and is offered to the public with a preference for individuals working for nonprofit organizations in metropolitan Chicago who identify as people of color, LGBTQ+, and/or as having a disability.
Learn more about Benefits, Expectations and Eligibility here.
Contact Shawn Jezak for more information.

Over the past year, these early-career members of our chapter have built a relationship with their assigned mentor, a more experienced fundraising professional who offered guidance directed at strengthening each individual protégé’s professional position.
Each protégé’s initiative drove their Peer Mentoring Program experience this past year, starting with goal setting - an opportunity to identify what each participant hoped to achieve through the program. While goals may have shifted throughout the year, mentors accompanied protégés through professional development, negotiating promotions and raises, and pursuing new opportunities at other Chicago-area organizations.
| |
Participants in the Fall 2024 Peer Mentoring cohort will be announced soon. For more information about joining the Peer Mentoring Committee or becoming a protégé or mentor in our Spring 2025 cohort, contact Christopher Chantson or Jennifer Dettloff, Committee Co-Chairs.

October is Ethics Awareness Month
|
Every October, AFP celebrates Ethics Awareness Month because ethics makes philanthropy and fundraising possible. Without ethics, giving doesn’t happen. Fundraising doesn’t happen. Change and impact don’t happen.
Ethics makes it all possible, and THAT’S worth celebrating.
Promoting ethical fundraising has been a key part of AFP’s mission since our founding, but how we define and live out our ethical fundraising principles has changed with the times, throughout the last sixty plus years.
| |
AFP's updated Code of Ethical Standards and the new Member Code of Conduct are now available to read here on the AFP website. The codes will go into effect on January 1, 2025. Read more
Visit the AFP Global website for Ethics Awareness Month Resources and a toolkit!
