We don't promise you will see any ghosts along the way...but we also don't promise you won't!

Werewolf with Gregory Williams |
Tuesday, October 29th, 2024 at 5:30pm
Spooky season is the perfect time to dive into the lore and history surrounding werewolves!
Join Gregory Williams for this talk about the most storied of all shapeshifters, the werewolf: a person who transmogrifies into a wolf or wolf/human hybrid, either voluntarily or unexpectedly. Werewolves appear in numerous cultures through the ages, and we will explore several strains of the legend. . . or history, as well as the difference between werewolfery (a real word) and lycanthropy. And maybe we’ll uncover what piña coladas and perfect hair have to do with the phenomenon.

Good News About Our Digital Newspaper Archive | |
As we've reported in previous editions of this newsletter, our digital newspaper archive of The Barnstable Patriot and The Register is currently offline as we transition to our new host -- Boston Public Library & Digital Commonwealth. The transition is expected to take about a year.
In June, Library Director Lucy Loomis spoke with Patrick Flanary of WCAI about the temporary loss of the archive and what it means to researchers, not only on the Cape but across the country. You can hear the interview HERE.
Luckily for us, the interview came to the attention of Karen Tarica of SmallTownPapers/Archive in a Box. They work with libraries, historical societies, and others to help them digitize and archive their newspapers and other documents, and also provide hosting software and services. Karen and company President Paul Jeffko were moved by our plight, since they work with historical stakeholders across the U.S. who are dedicated to making historical archive collections accessible/searchable online. SmallTownPapers has offered to be the host of our archives for the year while we continue to work with BPL/Digital Commonwealth.
It is expected that our newspaper archive will be accessible on the SmallTownPapers site in the next few weeks. Keep an eye on this newsletter and our website to learn when it is back up and running.
Many thanks to Paul and his staff for their generosity and hard work on our behalf.
