We were recently honored to have been recognized as a winner at The Daily Record’s Empowering Women Awards at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. Maria Darby, DWD COO, proudly accepted the award and was joined by team members Michelle Boyle, Karen Evander, Lisa Chamness, and Zsa-Shane Smith. This award celebrates organizations committed to supporting and elevating women across Maryland. We were thrilled to be recognized for our dedication to empowering both the women we serve and our own team members!

CEO Barb Clapp and Dwyer Scholar Jazunic Hudspeth were recently interviewed on KVUE, Austin’s ABC affiliate, which reaches nearly four million visitors each month. Jazunic shared her inspiring journey, from completing CNA training at Windsor Duval to getting her certification and being hired full time. Kudos, ladies!

We were thrilled to be named a 2024 Moxie Award winner for being bold in business! Winners were announced at the Moxie Award Ceremony & Dinner on October 24th at The Ritz-Carlton in Tysons Corner. Attended by over 800 businesspeople, the event presented 17 awards recognizing innovative and fearless businesses in the Washington D.C. metro area that embrace risks to achieve their goals.
Our CEO, Barb Clapp, successfully progressed through three rounds of interviews before DWD was named a finalist and ultimately a winner in the healthcare category. Kudos to the team!

We have recently announced, alongside Ames Shalom Community, Inc., the selection of Seawall Development, Blank Slate, and Enterprise Community Development as our lead development partners for the predevelopment phase of the Resurrection Sandtown project. This transformative initiative will revitalize approximately 67,000 sq. ft. within a long-neglected area of Sandtown in West Baltimore, featuring the first-ever Dwyer Scholar Healthcare Village and more! | |

Our team had the privilege of attending The Baltimore Banner’s iMPACT MARYLAND conference, a one-day gathering at Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall that brought together leaders to discuss innovative solutions for the region's most pressing issues.
CEO Barb Clapp participated in the panel “Is There a Doctor in the House?” where she addressed crucial solutions for the healthcare workforce crisis. She was joined onstage by Sarah L. Szanton, Ph.D., RN, FAAN, Dean and Patricia M. Davidson, Health Equity and Social Justice Endowed Professor at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, and Lisa Whaley, Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer at LifeBridge Health.

Solutions to Texas’ Healthcare Workforce Challenges | |
Our CEO, Barb Clapp, participated in a panel at Texas Economic Development Council's annual conference in Addison, Texas, to discuss innovative solutions for the state’s healthcare workforce challenges. With Texas’ senior population expected to double by 2050, addressing workforce shortages is crucial for driving positive outcomes in disadvantaged communities.
Led by Leah Waters of The Dallas Morning News, Barb joined panelists Veronica Gonzales, DWD Board Member and Senior Vice President of Governmental and Community Relations at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, and Chris Wallace, President and CEO of North Texas Commission.
