Our School Libraries:
At the Heart of Learning
| |
This month, we want to highlight the vital role our school libraries play in supporting student growth. Our libraries are not just quiet study spaces; they are vibrant environments for learning and creativity. A special shout out goes to our stellar Library Media Technicians, aka Librarians, for creating such nurturing and supportive communities in our school libraries!
Here are some fun facts shared by our amazing Library Media Techs who make our students’ library experience meaningful:
|
- Our libraries welcome over 6,000 visitors and circulate more than 5,000 books each month.
- Many elementary school libraries feature weekly themes and story time discussions that encourage students to explore characters and lessons.
One of our elementary librarians shared this quote:
“The time we spend discussing books is invaluable. Everyone is given a chance to be heard and give their opinions on important topics such as kindness, diversity, mindfulness, feelings, emotions, and much more. I have the distinct blessing to have contact with each and every student every week and I feel this is my opportunity to help contribute to nurturing the whole child.”

- Libraries organize challenges, activities, lunch bunches, read-aloud sessions, mentorship opportunities, and arts and crafts.
- Middle school libraries offer programs such as "You've Been Caught Reading," complete with raffles and celebrations, as well as Silent Reading tutorials.
- The RUHS library features exciting lunchtime programming, including Tiny Desk live music and a Career Series.

Thank you to our Library Media Technicians, and all of the volunteers, who nurture a love of reading, a love of learning, creating, and socializing in an inviting and safe space. This month, they also helped us celebrate Hispanic Heritage month with their creative displays!
Teachers Share Study Tips
Each month, we will share some recommendations from our dedicated teachers. Enjoy these favorite study habits our teachers suggest to help students maximize their learning potential.
|
“Practice 10 minutes a day. Listen to music, TV and radio in Spanish.”
- Señora Duran, RUHS, Spanish
“Create a dedicated homework space away from toys or devices that might be distracting.”
- Brianne Cohen, Lincoln, 1st Grade

“Set aside a specific time each day for homework and review to create a consistent routine. Keep your study sessions engaging by mixing up your methods—try using flashcards or studying with friends. At the end of each week, take a moment to reflect on what worked well and what didn’t. Be open to adjusting your routine as needed to discover what helps you learn best.”
- Paige Johnson, Parras, 6th Grade English
“Find the reason WHY you have to study for the certain topic! Sometimes when we find the ‘why’ we better absorb the ‘how’!”
- Ali Daly, Tulita, TK & 3rd
“My TOP TIP for students to establish good study habits is to use BODY DOUBLING. Body Doubling is a productivity technique where someone works alongside another person completing a task. The presence of another human increases calm, engagement, focus, and motivation. If you have trouble with procrastination or feelings of perfectionism, walking alongside someone on your academic journey can be mutually beneficial.”
- Rachel Andrews, RUHS, Mental Health Counselor
