October 2024 Youth Update
Sharing a Song from Camp
Summer camps are over for the year. Youth are back in school. I am still putting stuff away from camp (hula hoops, walkie talkies…finding the occasional shoe, so if you are missing one, let me know, I have three) and getting ready for convention.
Beginning in October, another (usually not so exciting) job I have is to report to the music licensing company every song we sing at camp and how many times. To do this, I get my songbook out and count hashtags for the ones we used. It is boring some years. But this year, I decided that as I go through it, I would take my time and think about the songs we sing with the campers.
There are lots of great songs in there!! Lots of fun songs!! Active songs, swaying songs and everything in between. But the one that struck me this time, is often the one I sing to myself when I need reminding that I am so blessed to be a child of God.

At one level it makes me sad the campers identify with this song. There are many negative voices even in their young lives. But, I find it very encouraging at another level ,that the campers enjoy singing this song, because it does remind us ultimately of who and whose we are.
God our Father, you see your children growing up in an
unsteady and confusing world: Show them that your ways
give more life than the ways of the world, and that following
you is better than chasing after selfish goals. Help them to
take failure, not as a measure of their worth, but as a chance
