How’s the view?

Oh, sorry. Perhaps I was unclear. I wasn’t referring to the kind of view you might gaze upon or asking about your viewpoint (i.e., opinion) on world affairs. This question is about the kind of view you experience as you go about your day-to-day life.

For most of us, this view is narrowly focused on ourselves. “How do I stack up? Am I smart enough, attractive enough, impressive enough?”

Buddha taught us that we are fully complete just as we are. Still, we can’t quite believe it, so we search outside of ourselves to find the things we are certain we lack. And we protect ourselves from anything that threatens this carefully cultivated “I.”

This is where the trouble starts. When we try to own things that can’t be owned or cause others to needlessly suffer when we feel threatened, we miss the big picture.

But when we loosen our tight grip on “me” even for a moment, something wonderful happens! We let the whole world in and realize we’ve been part of it all along.

Our Senior Dharma Teachers are offering online Dharma Dialogues if you would like to discuss your practice and any questions you may have. Please get in touch with them individually to schedule an appointment if you would like a one-on-one Zoom meeting.

Chanting Requests

Once a month, we set aside time in our Sunday practice to express compassion for anyone who is suffering or recently deceased. Kwan Seum Bosal chanting is for anyone who is suffering. Ji Jang Bosal chanting is for the recently deceased. We invite you to register the names of loved ones for either chant. We will recite the names when we do special chanting.
