October 2024 Newsletter

To give aid and encouragement in promoting the education and welfare of at-risk children in the state of Georgia.

October is busy for The Circle for Children . Make sure you check out our website to keep updated.

It is NOW TIME to sign up for our October 20th TOP GOLF Fundraiser. We need your help! This is a kid friendly event. You do not need to know how to golf. Top Golf will be providing a pro to assist. You do not need golf shoes or clubs. No excuses. Come join your fellow members for a "Sunday Funday". We have a fabulous mini Silent Auction and hopefully a lucky participant will get a hole in one and walk away with $10,000!

The prospective New Member Party will be Oct 6th @ Bar Ti Amos. Please let Emily Lemmy or Rita Furness know if you have somebody joining. They will reach out to them with an invite.

There are TWO volunteer opportunities with The City of Refuge. On October 18th we need helpers with their Fall Festival. The time is from 9a-12p and we will be helping decorate pie pumpkins. The Circle will be providing 110 pumpkins, stickers and paint.

The other event is The City of Refuge's Annual Trunk or Treat. The date is October 24th from 5:30-7PM. More details will be provided via e-mail.

Lastly, if you have not signed up yet for the Fall general meeting do it now. The committee has planned a lovely luncheon with a great speaker and complimentary swag bags . You do not want to miss this event.

As we approach this fall season, I am thankful for each and everyone of you who have dedicated yourselves to giving financial and personal assistance for at-risk youth in Georgia.

Positively,

Polly Hogue

Circle President

City of Refuge

Our Story

In July of 1997, Pastor Bruce Deel was asked to travel to Atlanta to assist with the closing of a church. A few weeks into the process, he realized something miraculous was happening. Instead of the congregation dwindling, it was growing—with people desperately in need of spiritual nurturing as well as basic life necessities.

Recognizing that most of the people The Mission Church served traveled from the city’s Westside, City of Refuge sought to be closer to them. In 2003, after months of searching for a facility, City of Refuge was miraculously donated a sprawling warehouse complex in the heart of 30314 and opened its doors to the community.

From this new hub, the community began to seek more than food and shelter. They asked City of Refuge for help getting into recovery centers, to serve as advocates in court, and for job training and vocational skills. When they asked City of Refuge for something it could not provide, City of Refuge collaborated with other organizations that could.

As a result, City of Refuge grew.

Help us bring more light, hope, and transformation to a community in need. The Circle of Children is part of a movement of individuals who support City of Refuge on a consistent basis and receive exclusive monthly updates.
