Shada Aborawi attended the e-Mental Health International Congress last month In Ottawa, and got to hear from experts in the field about the emerging landscape of digital mental health tools and services.
Shada presented alongside panel members from KidsHelpPhone's National Youth Council and a fellow Mental Health Commission of Canada Youth Council Member. Their panel was called "Leading the Way: Youth Co-Design of E-Mental Health Services" where they discussed the importance of including young people and more broadly, individuals with lived and living experiences of mental health and addiction, into the design process of targeted digital mental health supports and services.
As a panellist, Shada sought to highlight the importance of an intersectional lens when working with young people, and drawing from their lived and living experiences to inform the work, but also equally valuing their knowledge, skills, and expertise.

Prentice Institute becomes partner signatory of the Buffalo Treaty
On September 25th, 2024, during the 10th Anniversary events of the Buffalo Treaty (September 22nd -25th, 2024), the Prentice Institute became a partner signatory of the Treaty. This is a commitment to, in the Treaty’s words, “bring about the manifestation of the intent of this treaty.” Articles in The Buffalo: A Treaty of Cooperation, Renewal and Restoration include Conservation, Culture, Economics, Health, Education and Research, all of which relate to the Prentice Institute mandate. As a testimony of the importance of this Treaty, dozens of Indigenous representatives, some from as far away as New Zealand, attended the Anniversary week events to re-sign or become new signatories. The events were co-hosted by Motokiiksi (Buffalo Women’s Society), the Blood Tribe (Kainai First Nation) of the Blackfoot Confederacy and the International Buffalo Relations Institute (IBRI).
Staff from IBRI will deliver a session at the Prentice Institute early in 2025 at which we will learn about the ways in which we can activate this partnership and commitment. Stayed tuned!
