The fifth annual observance of Inflammatory Eye Disease (IED) Week kicked off on Oct. 20 and runs through Oct. 26 this year. Sponsored by Prevent Blindness, IED Week is an opportunity to bring awareness to the common conditions that cause eye inflammation.
Inflammation is the body’s natural response to injury, infection, or irritation and can happen at any age. It can also occur in response to normally harmless substances, such as dust, grass, or pollen. While most cases of eye inflammation can be successfully treated, rare instances can threaten eyesight, making early diagnosis crucial.
