ST. LUKES'S HOSPITAL: A PLACE OF HEALING FOR ALL
When 11-year-old Dana Khufash began experiencing constant vomiting and severe headaches, her parents grew increasingly concerned. As her symptoms worsened, they brought her to St. Luke’s Hospital in Nablus, hoping for answers and healing for their daughter.
At St. Luke’s, a series of tests revealed a frightening diagnosis: Dana had a brain tumor that required immediate treatment. The news was devastating, but the hospital’s skilled neurosurgeon acted swiftly. Dana underwent surgery to remove the tumor and remained in the hospital for a week, receiving specialized care as she recovered.
Doctors, nurses, and staff stepped in with compassion after Dana’s father shared he couldn’t afford the treatment, covering the costs of her care in full.
Today, Dana is gaining strength, continuing her medications and returning to St. Luke’s for regular check-ups. Her parents are deeply grateful to see her smiling again.
Dana’s story is just one among many who face similar challenges.
In a region where travel restrictions and checkpoints make everyday life difficult, access to comprehensive, quality healthcare at a local hospital is crucial. The northern West Bank city of Nablus, home to more than 450,000 people, is surrounded by closures, preventing many residents from working, studying, or conducting business outside the city. As a result, families often face impossible choices between essential medical care and financial survival.
Founded more than 119 years ago, St. Luke’s is the only charitable hospital in Nablus. Known for its expertise in neurosurgery, obstetrics, and neonatal care, the hospital ensures that no patient is turned away regardless of their race, nationality, faith, ability, or financial status. The ongoing crisis has caused a devastating loss of income and a growing monthly deficit, putting St. Luke’s ability to continue this vital work under serious strain.
Today, more than ever, St. Luke’s needs your support to continue its healing mission. As hospital leadership shared: “Over the last few years, we had to cope with many crucial moments, but the hospital, the diocese, and the employees went through it together. Our employees will not give up.”
With the support of AFEDJ donors, St. Luke’s Hospital and other humanitarian institutions of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem can continue offering life-saving care to families like Dana’s at a time when the need is so critical. When you give today, you make it possible for St. Luke’s to remain a place of healing and hope for every family that walks through its doors.
