68th Salisbury Fall Festival

The 68th Salisbury Fall Festival will be held on October 10, 11, and 12. As one of the oldest Fall Festivals in our region, the event has grown from an antique show to a large home-town celebration for our community!

Enjoy long-time favorites, such as the Quilt Show, Treasure Trove, and bake sales at the Congregational Church and book sales at the Library, St. Johns, and Johnnycake Books. See the exhibits at the Salisbury Association and enjoy a Prime Rib Dinner at the Lakeville Hose.  Scarecrows will again line Main Street in Salisbury and Lakeville.  Vote for your favorites in three categories—the winners will be awarded cash prizes or a trophy. On Friday night, business are sponsoring “Sip and Stroll” as a fun start to the weekend.

Many organizations will have booths on both sides of Main Street on Saturday.  Local artisans will set up tents on the White Hart lawn.  Lots of games and crafts will be held on the Library lawn. Kids of all ages will enjoy the magic shows, face painting, herbal crafts, pumpkin painting, and dance performances by Martha Graham and Blue Studio dancers. Go on a hay ride or an antique car ride. Watch a demo by a blacksmith. And meet Gibert the Party Pig!

Enjoy live music? The Joint Chiefs and Salisbury Band will perform, along with a jazz guitarist and a percussion group. New this year is a Friday Concert at the Congregational Church and singing by students from Salisbury Central School.  And you can try karaoke singing.

There’s lots of food and beverage options--food tents offering hot dogs and comfort food, and food trucks featuring tacos, soups, sandwiches, and ice cream. Or stop in Sweet Williams and Provisions. Enjoy dinner, with a discount, at the Interlaken Inn.

On Sunday, don’t miss the Pet Parade at noon at the Lakeville Community Field. Visit the many artisans selling hand-made items. Take advantage of the discounts on books and Treasure Trove sales. The weekend will be filled with fun activities for friends and families of all ages!

THE SALISBURY BEAST 5K
October 19, 2025

Join us for year EIGHT of Connecticut's most monstrous 5k in the majestic hills of Salisbury, CT. Our second year as a USATF certified course, is specially dedicated this year to Peter Hawley, who was a runner among runners and the most generous champion of race directors across Connecticut, certifying hundreds of races and doing double duty to raise money and awareness.

The route climbs what feels like 1,000 ft in the first mile, but gains an actual 500 feet at mile 1.3 before runners turn around at the top of Lincoln City Rd, and fly back down the same steeps, flanked by extraordinary views of Lake Wononscopomuc during autumn's final peak.

As always, this run is fun(d)raiser with proceeds supporting evidence-based adventure and arts and educational programming for people ages 12-20 in order to prevent the elevated risks for alcohol and drug abuse faced by young people in rural areas of New England where the overdose rate is among the highest in the state. To date, we have raised over $7,500 for organizations making a difference. This year a portion of race proceeds and all additional donations will support Catamount Resort's National Ski Patrol Young Adult Program (YAP) an organization aligned with our mission, which is to bring forth the best of the BEAST in all of us.

Our majestic and evergreen course has welcomed runners from all over the Eastern Region who enjoy the quintessential views and vibe of old-world New England in the autumn. This corner of Connecticut offers every adventure, play and recreational opportunity, making the event fun for the whole family.

Transfer Station Recycling Advisory Committee (TRAC) Talk

September Outreach at the Transfer Station

A star-studded line up of volunteers (including Selectmen and Selectwomen from the two towns, State Representative Maria Horn, and a number of residents, who gave an hour or two of their time on a damp September 25th, to promote the Food Waste Pilot program and guide people to place Swap Shop items in the right place. Over 20 residents signed up join the Food Waste diversion program and we started a waiting list. Quite a successful day!

Swap Shop Stories

We’re hoping to find a good conduit for sharing Swap Shop Stories. In the meantime, think about writing them down. My favorite is the day a piano, that had not been left untaken for days, beckoned to a piano player who promptly overturned a planter from the garden section of the Swap Shop to serve as a seat. He began with a Billy Joel song, and soon people from the parking lot and from inside the Swap Shop surrounded him as he played melody after melody. Everyone was smiling. While the piano player did not take the piano home with him, I heard rumors that it was taken by someone and put to good use.
