Warmer October to Influence Energy Prices?

October 2025 is shaping up to be warmer than average across New York State, with forecasts indicating temperatures consistently above seasonal norms. This trend, driven by a transition toward La Niña conditions, is expected to reduce early natural gas heating demand. Less demand than normal could help ease pressure on energy markets.

However, while warmer October temperatures may temporarily suppress heating-related energy costs, volatility remains a risk heading into winter. Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) exports are rapidly increasing, and production levels remain flat. Market participants should monitor these factors closely, as a colder-than-expected November could reverse current price stability. More than Just Energy Savings

It has been just under a year since the NY Department of Public Service started requiring all energy brokers and consultants to publicly register and disclose compensation under Public Service Law §66-t. With transparency into brokerage fees, MEGA can now evaluate both your energy and brokerage costs.

This month, we were able to help one upstate county save 66% a year on its brokerage fees by switching to MEGA. Unlike commercial brokers, MEGA's fees are paid by the energy suppliers as disclosed in public bids held in full compliance with NYS public bidding regulations. Have you looked at your energy broker service costs lately?

Understanding Local Government Structure in New York State

How do New York's counties and districts fit together to shape the state's local governance system?

Local government in New York State is made up of many interconnected parts that work together to provide services to residents. Over time, this system has grown into a complex network of counties, cities, towns, villages, school districts, and special districts — each with its own roles, responsibilities, and tax structures. Understanding how these layers fit together is essential for recognizing how public services and infrastructure are managed across the state.

Delaware County

Delaware County may only have about 45,000 residents, but it's New York's fifth-largest county by land area. Bordering Pennsylvania in the western Catskills and part of the Southern Tier region, Delaware County is a place of big landscapes and small towns shaped by rivers, reservoirs, and farms.

Video Now Available

With winter on the horizon, understanding the forces shaping energy pricing is more important than ever. Watch this video of our recent Winter is Coming Webinar for Local Government Leaders, held September 25, 2025, to learn what components make up an energy bill, how weather patterns, fluctuating demands for natural gas, grid investments, and evolving public policies are all impacting energy prices, and how you can make informed decisions for your local government or school districts.

NYPA Customer Energy Conference

MEGA Executive Director Mark LaVigne this week attended the New York Power Authority’s Customer Energy Conference in Albany. The conference addressed the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA), the challenges of meeting those goals, and the benefits available to consumers as the state works to achieve those objectives.

The conference workshops covered virtual power plants (VPPs) and the model NYPA has been testing with state agency pilot projects; advancing clean energy projects, decarbonization leadership, and supporting NY businesses through the energy transition.

Constellation Furyk and Friends Senior PGA Event

MEGA Executive Director Mark LaVigne and EnergyNext’s David Wiers attended a weekend networking event with our electricity supply partner Constellation Energy.

The event including opportunities to meet other municipal energy supply aggregators from across the Northeast and country and learn how Constellation partners are innovating to support the energy transition and to bring down the cost of energy.
