"Hats Off!:

Making the Shift from Clinician to Coach"

A Lifestyle Coach is a group facilitator versus an expert teacher. The role of the Lifestyle Coach in the National DPP Lifestyle Change Program is to lead group sessions using a CDC-approved curriculum and support participants as they make lifestyle changes to reduce their risk for type 2 diabetes. Lifestyle Coaches who are also clinicians can struggle to set aside their expertise to facilitate learning vs. teaching. In this webinar, we will establish the benefits of a facilitated/coach approach to lifestyle change and hear from experienced lifestyle coaches tips for making the shift from clinician to coach!

"Motivation is a Fickle Friend"

In this webinar, we will explore the many factors that contribute to health behavior change. Lifestyle Coaches will learn how to talk about and support changes in their groups in a way that moves beyond a singular focus on motivation to a focus on skills, strategies, and support that are proven to increase the likelihood of change.

Podcasts:

DTTAC Advance™ Podcasts, called DTTAC Dialogues, are 20-30-minute podcast episodes perfect for the Lifestyle Coach on the go. Dialogues can be listened to on a laptop or your phone via the Learn Upon app, so even the busy Lifestyle Coach can listen to them throughout their workday, in the office, while driving, on a walk, or wherever else! Dialogues cover practical and informational topics centered around enhancing the skills of lifestyle coaches delivering the National Diabetes Prevention Program. 3 podcasts = 1 hour of Advanced Coach Training (ACT) required under the CDC DPRP Standards.

To listen to these podcasts on your mobile device, you can either navigate your web browser to the learning hub, or you can download the Learn Upon app and complete the whole course directly from your device! Enter "emorytraining" when the app asks you to enter the URL of the portal you would like to access. Then you can login with your Learn Upon username and password!

Meet Robin Taylor Seitz

YMCA of Southeastern NC

Robin is one of the two sponsored lifestyle coaches that will be attending the 6-month CDC Group Coaching Certificate program starting in October.

Robin has been teaching the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) for over eight years and is passionate about helping participants achieve healthier outcomes. Earning the CDC Group Coaching Certificate represents an important step in strengthening her coaching skills, adding new facilitation methods, motivational techniques, and engagement strategies to her toolkit. She is excited to enhanced skills that will not only support participant success but also improve program performance metrics and elevate the visibility of the YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina’s work in the community.

Dedicated to both professional growth and program impact, Robin views this certification as a way to enhance her credibility while increasing the marketability of the YMCA’s DPP program. With a vision to expand offerings and secure greater community and grant support, Robin is also preparing for future leadership opportunities. A lifelong learner and seasoned educator, she is committed to continuously improving both her own practice and the programs she leads.

You can nominate a DPP lifestyle coach in your organization who is doing great work!
