Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Christine E. Lynn Advanced Nursing Simulation Clinic

The Christine E. Lynn Advanced Nursing Simulation Clinic officially opened at Florida Atlantic University’s College of Nursing in Boca Raton with a program and reception on Sept. 24. Dean Cameron Duncan was joined by Florida Atlantic President Adam Hasner and Provost Russell Ivy, along with Mrs. Lynn; Dr. Hank Drummond, divisional senior vice president, Cross Country Healthcare; and Eileen Manniste, chief nursing officer, Broward Health; for the ribbon cutting ceremony and tours of the clinic.


The program also included the portrait unveiling of Dr. Safiya George, the third dean in the college’s four-decade history. Dr. George, now president of University of the Virgin Islands, was in attendance to express her appreciation for the recognition. Read More

Nursing Alumni Set to Celebrate at Fall Reception

The Nursing Professionals Alumni Network will host a fall reception on Thursday, Oct. 9, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Student Union on the university's Davie campus. This special event provides an opportunity for alumni, students and guests to come together to celebrate the achievements of Nursing Owls, over light fare and refreshments. The reception will highlight the enduring impact of our alumni on nursing education, research, scholarship and practice. Join us and register here!

Caring Hearts Auxiliary to Host 19th Annual 'Keep Memories Alive' Walk

The Caring Hearts Auxiliary of Florida Atlantic's Louis and Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center within the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing, is set to host its 19th annual “Keep Memories Alive” Walk-in-the-Mall on Sunday, Nov. 2, at 9 a.m. at the Town Center (North entrance) in Boca Raton. Registration begins at 8 a.m.

BSN Students Honored at Kay Carpenter Scholarship Pinning Ceremony

The Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing hosted the Kay Carpenter Scholarship Pinning Ceremony for more than 20 Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) students on Sept. 30. The event honored these outstanding scholars with pins representing the late Kay Carpenter, whose vision and generosity established the scholarship fund. Established in 2018, this scholarship has helped almost 150 students achieve their goal of becoming nurses. Read More

Giving Day

Thank You for Your Generosity! Giving Day 2025

On Sept. 18, the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing exceeded its 2025 Giving Day challenge, with 64 donors contributing for a total amount of $8,729. Across the university, more than 1,500 donors united to support Florida Atlantic’s 3rd annual Giving Day, raising more than $813,000 for student success initiatives, community programs, innovative research, and more. The day-long campaign achieved a 129% increase in total dollars raised over 2024.

The Student Nurses' Association (SNA) is set to host its annual Halloween party on Wednesday, Oct. 29, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the college's Atrium. Come dressed in your best costume and enter in the costume contest, play some games, win prizes, eat and have fun!

Student Spotlight: Eddy Pierre Jean

Eddy Pierre Jean

Accelerated BSN student Eddy Pierre Jean views his nursing degree as an opportunity for professional advancement and a fulfilling career dedicated to serving his community. Eddy is part of the Davie campus cohort of the track, which is specifically designed for students with a baccalaureate degree in another field seeking to become a Registered Nurse. He anticipates graduating from the program in December 2025.

 

"Becoming a nurse was always my dream, but family responsibilities and life circumstances delayed the process,” Eddy said. “Through fieldwork, I had the chance to meet nurses and doctors who reignited that passion. They inspired me to stop waiting and finally turn my dreams into action. Everything I have done so far has led me here.” Read More

Research News

Dr. Candy Wilson Presents Collaborative ADRD Research in South Africa

The 17th Global Conference on Ageing, organized by the International Federation on Ageing (IFA), was held in Cape Town, South Africa, from Sept. 9 to 12. The event was dedicated to exploring the diverse dimensions of ageing to drive action and improve the quality of life for older people.


At the conference, Dr. Candy Wilson presented collaborative research on, "Optimizing Rural Community Health to Increase Interdisciplinary Detection and Care: The ORCHID Study." This project, conducted by Drs. Lisa Wiese and Beth King, Dr. Magdalina Tolea, and Ms. Bianca Tolea, highlighted Florida Atlantic University's community outreach in the Glades to provide residents and health care providers with education on Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementia (ADRD).

Archives of Caring

Housed within the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing, the Archives of Caring is a unique repository dedicated to preserving the legacy and scholarship of caring science in nursing. With 27 collections (and counting) from 19 generous donors, the Archives supports the study, teaching and advancement of caring as a vital domain of nursing knowledge.


It includes rare nursing history books, personal papers of caring scholars and materials from nurses trained in the 1930s and 1950s. These resources are available for research and educational use. Learn More

Faculty and Staff News

On Sept. 3, Dr. Mary Ann Leavitt presented "Heart Disease and Heart Health" at the West Boca Raton branch of the Palm Beach County Library Systems. She described the extent of cardiovascular disease in the U.S. and how to distinguish between a heart attack and heart failure.

Research, innovations and treatment strategies were among the topics covered at the Symposium on Advanced Wound Care fall conference. Dr. Caroline Hardy poster's focused on an evidence-based guide for primary care providers to implement compression therapy in patients prior to evaluation and treatment by a specialist.

Dr. Debra Hain presented at the American Nephrology Nurses Association Fall Summit on serious mental illness in adults with chronic kidney disease in North Carolina on Sept. 26. She discussed strategies for assessment, early identification and interventions to reduce barriers to quality mental health and nephrology care.

Dr. Lisa Wiese spoke to local residents at the Healthier Glades Celebration in September. The goal of the initiative is to foster health, wellness, and youth engagement in the Glades community for lasting impact. Residents, grassroots groups and new nonprofits were invited to free workshops designed to prepare first-time applicants for the Healthier Glades Mini Grant.
