This free, family-friendly event kicks off Fire Prevention Week and is a great chance to connect with your community. Enjoy exciting activities including Touch-a-Truck, live demonstrations, food trucks, and a visit from Sparky the Fire Dog. Meet the men and women of the Fairborn Fire Department, Police Department, Public Works, and more as they showcase the work they do to keep Fairborn safe. We hope to see you there!

Fairborn Holds Town Hall
Thank you to all the residents who joined us for the recent Town Hall on city finances. Your participation and thoughtful questions made for a productive discussion on topics such as property taxes, the annual budget, and the proposed renewal of the 4.4 mill, 5-year police and fire levies. If you were unable to attend, we encourage you to join us at our next Town Hall on Tuesday, October 14 at 6 p.m. at the Fairborn High School Performing Arts Center.

Fairborn High School Homecoming Parade
The Fairborn High School Homecoming Parade will take place on Wednesday, October 8, from 5:45 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The parade route runs along Commerce Center Drive from TCN Behavioral Health to the entrance of Fairborn High School. Please note that both entrances to Arden Place on Arden Way and Heathgate Way will be temporarily blocked during the parade. Residents and drivers are encouraged to plan alternate routes and allow extra travel time.

Trick-or-Treat Set for October 31
Mark your calendars! Fairborn’s community Trick-or-Treat will take place on Friday, October 31, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Families are invited to enjoy a safe, fun evening of Halloween traditions throughout the city. Parents are encouraged to accompany young children, carry flashlights, and remind trick-or-treaters to watch for traffic. Drivers should also use extra caution while traveling through neighborhoods.

Skyway Plaza Redevelopment Coming to Fairborn
The City of Fairborn, in partnership with the Fairborn Development Corporation and Synergy are redeveloping the former Skyway Plaza into a hub for defense-related and advanced manufacturing, including secure offices, labs, and high-bay facilities. The project, located near Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, is expected to bring jobs, innovation, and new economic opportunities to the community, with initial development starting in late 2025.

Green Oaks of Fairborn Approved by City Council
On September 15, 2025, Fairborn City Council approved plans for Green Oaks of Fairborn, a 95,800-square-foot independent senior living community. The facility will feature 120 studio and one-bedroom units, full-service dining, game and theater rooms, sunrooms, outdoor patios, and walking paths. 20 percent of units will be fully accessible, with the remainder adaptable for residents’ needs. The project is expected to break ground in spring 2026 and be completed by fall 2028.

Pumpkins & Popcorn in the Park
Join us on Saturday, October 11 at 5 p.m. at Community Park, located at 691 E. Dayton Yellow Springs Road for a free outdoor screening of the classic family movie Halloweentown at the newly renovated Atherton Amphitheater! Before the movie begins, enjoy an evening of fall fun with games, inflatables, activities, local vendors, and food trucks. Wristbands for the inflatables, games, and activities are $5 and can be purchased in advance or at the event. | | 2025 Spooktacular Costume Contest & Parade | | |
The 2025 Spooktacular Costume Contest and Parade returns on Friday, October 17 as part of the Fairborn Halloween Festival! The costume contest begins at 6 p.m. at the Fairborn YMCA, with categories for all ages, families, couples, and scariest costumes. Entry is free. Participants must register between 6:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. The parade begins at 7:15 p.m. down Central Avenue to Main Street, ending at the festival stage where awards will be given out. Free activities will also be available at the YMCA before the parade. Thanks to our event partners: Fairborn YMCA, Balloon Dog Events, and Faircreek Church for helping make this annual celebration possible.

2026 Curb, Sidewalk, and Approach Program
The City of Fairborn will launch its 2026 Curb, Sidewalk, and Approach (CSA) Program on Monday, October 6, 2025. This program is an essential step in preparing neighborhoods for the annual street resurfacing work planned for 2026. As part of the process, a Fairborn inspector previously marked any curbs, sidewalks, or approaches in need of repair. Property owners with required repairs received certified notices detailing the type of work, estimated costs, and the option to complete repairs through the city’s program.

Broad Street Enhancement – Phase 3 Update
Construction on Broad Street Phase 3 from Central Avenue to Sandhill Road is progressing well. Key improvements include road widening, a three-lane cross section, a 10-foot multi-use path, new curbs, storm sewer upgrades, ADA ramps, and pavement striping. As of October 1, all storm structures and pipes on the north side are complete. The multi-use path and curbs on the north side are scheduled for completion by the end of November, with barrels and cones removed by December 1 for winter. Work will resume on the south side in March 2026.

Maple Avenue Pavement Repairs
Paving and striping work begins this week on Maple Avenue. The project focuses on the northbound lane and a portion of the center lane, covering approximately 600 feet in length. Work included removal of the existing pavement and base, installation of new base, asphalt, and underdrain. The northbound lane of Maple Avenue will remain closed to thru traffic from Juniper Drive to Doris Drive. Construction is expected to be finished next week.

Community Park Stormwater Improvement Project
The City of Fairborn is upgrading the stormwater system near Zimmer Drive in the lower level of Community Park. The existing open-channel system is being replaced with a closed-pipe system, improving stormwater management while freeing up space for expanded green areas. This project will enhance the park’s usability and aesthetics, providing residents with more open space for recreation while maintaining effective drainage. Residents are encouraged to exercise caution in the area during construction.

Garland Avenue Water Main Replacement
Construction on the Garland Avenue water main replacement is continuing. This project will improve water service reliability and infrastructure for residents along the corridor. Work is expected to be completed by the end of November, weather permitting.

Keep Leaves Out of Storm Drains This Fall
As the leaves begin to fall, the City of Fairborn reminds residents to keep leaves and yard debris out of storm drains. Clogged drains can cause flooding, drainage issues, and costly damage to streets and neighborhoods. Please rake leaves away from streets and drains and use proper disposal methods.

Fairborn Fire Department Honors Military Heroes
On Sunday, September 21, the Fairborn Fire Department had the honor to help celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Honor Flight Dayton. As part of Operation Honor at Wright-Patterson AFB, firefighters performed a fini flight, which is a ceremonial water salute. The Fairborn Fire Department is the only department in the nation to partner with the Air Force for this meaningful tradition, honoring both our military heroes and our community.

Fairborn Police Department Celebrates Promotions
The City of Fairborn proudly celebrates the promotions of three dedicated members of the Fairborn Police Department. Congratulations to Sgt. John McGuire, who has been promoted to Captain, and to Officer Patrick Taubert and Officer Joe Walton, both promoted to Sergeant. Their dedication, leadership, and commitment to serving our community have earned them this recognition, and the City looks forward to the positive impact they will continue to make in their new roles.

Fairborn Earns Best-Ever Fiscal Health Rating
The City of Fairborn has achieved its highest-ever Fiscal Health Indicator (FHI) rating from the Ohio Auditor of State, with a near-perfect score in the report finalized on September 26. The FHI program evaluates local governments on 17 financial indicators to identify early signs of fiscal stress. The City remains committed to building on this success while addressing infrastructure needs to support long-term growth and community quality of life.
