Boston Common

The League of Women Voters of Massachusetts is proud to be part of the Boston 10K for Women, happening on October 10 at Boston Common. This year, on the 50th anniversary of the 10K, LWVMA is an official charity partner! Our multigenerational Team Civic Pacers is excited to walk, run, and jog their way to the finish line on October 10, but they need your help! Consider supporting one of our teammates with a donation to their 10K.

Interested in volunteering for tabling, cheering, or networking on race day? Sign up HERE.

We encourage volunteers to arrive at the Boston Common early, as several roads surrounding the Common will be closed by 7:15 AM. Use of public transportation is strongly recommended. The race site is within easy walking distance of the Boylston or Arlington MBTA Stops (Green Line) or Park Street MBTA Stop (Red or Green Line). Parking on race day is limited. The Boston Common Garage will be open for entry until 8:00 AM. It will be closed for entry from 8:00 AM–11:00 AM. Reverse exiting (via the entry) begins at 9:00 AM.

Your support makes an impact not just on race day, but on sustaining our civic education, youth leadership, and internship programming – ensuring the League’s impact sustains us for another 106 years.

With the all-important election rapidly approaching, LWVMA wants to ensure everyone’s VOTE is protected. This program is divided into three segments, with each featuring a subject matter expert (SME):

  • Getting Ready to Vote –This segment covers what voters need to do before they get their ballot or head to the polls in Massachusetts
  • It’s Voting Day – This segment focuses on voting day
  • Your Vote is Safe & Secure - Given the challenges being put forward by federal officials and other concerns that voters may have, we address those concerns and fears, whether voting by mail, voting early, or going to the polls

ACTIONS YOU CAN TAKE

Sign Up for Election Protection

As we enter the general election season, it is important to remember the League of Women Voters has spent the last 106 years as the ultimate election experts in 155 communities across the Commonwealth. With 2.6 million voters served by a local League in 2025, our commitment to displaying courage, trust in our elections, and a commitment to protecting the vote for all Bay Staters is pivotal – which is why we need you to serve as an Election Protection worker!

The League is a long standing member of the Election Protection (“EP”) Coalition in Massachusetts. With less than 35 days until the midterm election, we are actively seeking volunteers to join the Massachusetts EP to serve as nonpartisan poll monitors on Election Day, Tuesday, NovembSer 3. Poll monitors are stationed at various polling locations throughout MA for three-hour shifts. Their role is to answer questions from voters about issues they may encounter while voting as well as observing what is taking place at the polls and report issues as discussed in the training.

What do I need to do if I want to help? Sign up for Election Protection through LWVMA’s unique link HERE and READ MORE.

Send a Letter to the Editor on Questions 4 and 9

Please send a letter to the editor from your League urging a YES vote on ballot questions 4 and 9 for Election Day voter registration and to keep the gun controls passed in 2024. Send it soon, because people will get their mail ballots in early October.

Here’s a template you can use:

Dear Editor:

The League of Women Voters of (your League) urges a YES vote on ballot questions 4 and 9.

Ballot question 4 will allow Election Day voter registration. It will eliminate the arbitrary deadline of 10 days before an election to register. And it will allow registered voters who encounter a problem at the polls to fix that problem and cast a vote that will count. Almost half the states in the country have Election Day voter registration. It’s time for Massachusetts to join them.

Ballot question 9 will keep in place the firearms law passed by the legislature in 2024. That law banned “ghost guns,” outlawed devices that turn semi-automatic weapons into machine guns, modernized red flag laws, and strengthened Massachusetts violence prevention programs. A YES vote will keep Massachusetts safer.

Remember: YES on ballot questions 4 and 9.
