President's Letter

Dear Members, dear Colleagues,

Once again, I am pleased to share with you the latest updates on the activities and recent initiatives of our Society.

First of all, I would like to remind you that there are now only five months left until our 11th International Congress on Women's Mental Health, which will take place in Sitges, Barcelona, Spain, from 14-17 March 2027. https://iawmh2027.org/

The submission process for symposia and workshops has now closed, and the scientific programme is taking shape. However, there is still time to submit abstracts for oral communications and posters.

Submission deadline for Oral Communications and Posters: 30 October 2026

The preliminary programme will be available shortly on the Congress website, so please stay tuned for updates.

The theme of the Congress is “Integrating a Biopsychosocial Approach in Women's Mental Health.” Our aim is to address a broad range of topics reflecting this integrated and multidisciplinary perspective, bringing together clinicians, researchers, educators, and advocates from around the world.

You can also access interviews with our keynote speakers conducted by our media partner SOM360: https://iawmh2027.org/index.php/media-partners

I also encourage you to follow our social media channels for the latest Congress news and updates:

In addition to the Congress updates, I would like to highlight several other initiatives and recent developments.

As part of our commitment to expanding knowledge and promoting excellence in Women's Mental Health, I would like to remind members that Archives of Women's Mental Health is the official journal of the IAWMH. All members have free access to the journal through the Members Only section of our website: https://iawmh.org/

Members can also access the webinar “Gender Perspective in Psychiatry and Mental Health Disorders: A Need for Human Rights,” presented in September by Margarita Sáenz-Herrero and María Recio-Barbero.

Continuing our successful collaborations with partner organizations, we will once again host a joint webinar with the Asociación Psiquiátrica de América Latina (APAL). This webinar, entitled “A Perspective from the Life Course, Gender, and Clinical Practice,” will take place on 27 October 2026.

Regarding initiatives and achievements of members of our Society, I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to IAWMH President-Elect Gihan ELNahas, who was recently elected Co-Chair of the WPA Women's Mental Health Section and WPA Zonal Representative for North Africa for the upcoming triennium.

I would also like to highlight the strong presence of IAWMH members at the 26th WPA World Congress of Psychiatry. Members of the International Association for Women's Mental Health contributed to scientific symposia, state-of-the-art sessions, pre-congress courses, and oral poster presentations. Their contributions reflected the diversity of our field and addressed issues related to clinical care, research, education, and gender equity across countries and across the life course.

As always, I encourage you to share your ideas, concerns, and proposals with me and the Board. Your input is essential as we continue to strengthen our Society and advance our role as a global advocate for women's mental health.

I very much look forward to welcoming many of you to our 11th Congress in Sitges.

With my best personal wishes,

Judith Usall i Rodié

Women’s Mental Health: Three Scenarios in a Complex Reality

Jointly with Latin American Psychiatric Association (APAL)

A perspective from the life course, gender, and clinical practice

Webinar organized by the Latin American Psychiatric Association (APAL) and the International Association for Women’s Mental Health

As part of our “Building Bridges” program, we are pleased to present our second webinar of 2026, which will take place on October 27, 2026.

Although English is the official language for IAWMH activities, this webinar will be presented in Spanish as a nod to our partner, APAL.

We have selected three compelling topics, recognizing that women’s mental health needs to be understood within its own context, across the different stages of the life course, and in relation to biological, sociodemographic, and cultural factors.

Motherhood, trauma, and illness are realities that women may face throughout their lives, and each woman will experience them according to her individual resources and protective factors.

Three specialists will share their clinical experience and research on scenarios that require specific and tailored approaches.

  • Silvia Gaviria
Director, Women’s Mental Health Section, APAL
  • Dr. Judith Usall
