October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Each October, people across the country unite to raise awareness and support for the millions of people affected by breast cancer. Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) reminds us that awareness is important—but it’s our actions that save lives.

BCAM isn’t just symbolic. It’s an annual, coordinated effort to educate, engage, and take action on behalf of those facing breast cancer—and those who may in the future.

BCAM reminds us that breast cancer doesn’t wait. Right now, someone is getting the news that they have breast cancer and doesn’t know what to do next. Someone is starting treatment and needs support to make it through. Because of BCAM—and people like you—we can deliver help, hope, and support when it’s needed most.

October 16th is National Mammography Day

Early Detection Saves Lives

National Mammography Day is observed annually on the third Friday of every October, during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This year, it will be celebrated on October 16, 2026.

National Mammography Day is important because it serves as a reminder and encouragement to women to get screened for breast cancer through receiving a mammogram.

When detected early, in the localized stage, the 5-year relative survival rate for breast cancer is 99%, and mammograms are key to the early detection of breast cancer.

FDA Approves Updated COVID Vaccines: What to Know About the Shots

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved updated COVID-19 vaccines for the 2026-27 season, giving many Americans access to shots designed to better protect against the strains of the virus currently circulating. Health experts say the vaccines are especially important for older adults, who remain at higher risk for severe illness from the respiratory virus.

The four vaccine approvals come as COVID cases are climbing in several areas of the U.S., especially the South and West. Manufacturers have started shipping the vaccines, and they are already available in many clinics and pharmacies.

Are you Prepared for a Hurricane?

Take Action This Hurricane Season

While supplies are key, true preparedness goes beyond just what’s in your storage room or go-bag. It’s also about knowledge and readiness of mind. Knowing your evacuation routes, understanding how to secure your home, and staying up to date on storm tracking and emergency alerts are just as important as having batteries or a first aid kit.
