| | Grant Funds Tree Health Assessment at Nick Loutsis Park | |
The City of Carnation is pleased to announce an Urban Forest Health Program project at Nick Loutsis Park, funded by a grant from the King Conservation District. This project will include a comprehensive assessment of the park’s tree canopy to support long-term forest health and public safety.
Located along the Snoqualmie Valley Trail , Nick Loutsis Park is a central gathering place for Carnation residents and visitors. The project centers on a detailed tree risk assessment to better identify potential hazards and plan targeted maintenance that supports a healthy and resilient urban forest.
| | |
The work includes:
- Evaluating each tree’s condition, including pruning needs, structural defects, and any signs of pests or disease
- Tagging trees identified for maintenance and integrating all collected data into the City’s GIS system, including:
- Tree ID number
- Scientific and common name
- Diameter at Breast Height (DBH)
- General condition and notable characteristics
- Recommended actions
In alignment with Carnation’s municipal tree policy, only trees that present a safety hazard will be removed, and each removal will be replaced at a 3:1 ratio to ensure continued canopy growth and long‑term ecological benefits.
Carnation’s partnership with KCD will strengthen the long‑term vitality of Nick Loutsis Park and surrounding areas and provide the City with actionable information to guide future tree care and maintenance. This work will help ensure the park remains a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable space for everyone who visits.
