Nature's Backdrop
At Occano, every round is played against one of eastern North Carolina's most beautiful natural settings.

Featured Story: Where Golf Meets Nature
One of the things that makes Occano unique isn't found on a scorecard.
It's the setting.
Nestled in the heart of Bertie County, Occano is surrounded by some of the most beautiful natural landscapes in eastern North Carolina. From the shorelines of the Albemarle Sound to forests, waterways, wetlands, and wildlife habitats throughout the region, nature is woven into everyday life here.
For residents and visitors alike, that connection to the outdoors is part of what makes the Occano experience so memorable. A round of golf can include sightings of native birds soaring overhead. An afternoon on the water offers a front-row seat to the natural beauty that has defined this region for generations. Even a simple walk through the community reveals the quiet character and scenic surroundings that make Occano special.
Across North Carolina, more people are seeking destinations where recreation and nature coexist. They want places that offer room to explore, opportunities to reconnect with the outdoors, and experiences that feel authentic to the surrounding community.
Occano delivers all three.
Championship golf may be what initially brings many guests to the property, but the beauty of the surrounding landscape often becomes what they remember most. It's one of the reasons visitors return, homeowners choose to build here, and residents proudly call Occcano home.
As our community continues to grow, we're reminded that some of Occano's greatest amenities aren't built. They're all around us.

Never Cancel on a Forecast
One of our favorite group photos this month features the Mark Peters group, a familiar crew of golfers who embody true dedication to the game. After booking their trip, they faced a forecast calling for rain. Undeterred by a few light showers, the group headed out on the course and made the most of their day at Occano. They’ve earned the nickname the "Never Cancel on a Forecast Group," and we certainly appreciate their enthusiasm, loyalty, and commitment to the game. We look forward to welcoming them back again soon!

Behind the Greens: Preparing for Peak Golf Season
As temperatures begin to cool across eastern North Carolina, October marks an important transition on the golf course. While many players simply notice smoother greens, firmer fairways, and more comfortable playing conditions, a tremendous amount of work takes place behind the scenes to make fall one of the best times of the year to play at Occano.
Following the challenges of summer heat and heavy play, the agronomy team shifts its focus toward strengthening turf health for the months ahead. Areas impacted by summer stress continue to recover, while cooler temperatures create ideal growing conditions for both greens and fairways. The result is more consistent playing surfaces, improved vigor throughout the course, and enhanced overall course presentation.
October is also a critical time for course conditioning. Mowing heights, irrigation schedules, fertility programs, and bunker maintenance are carefully adjusted to match changing weather patterns and shorter daylight hours. These seasonal adjustments help ensure greens remain smooth and true while fairways maintain the firm, playable conditions golfers enjoy throughout the fall.
For many golfers, fall provides the ideal combination of great turf conditions and comfortable weather. For the maintenance team, it represents the culmination of months of planning, preparation, and daily attention to detail.
The next time you're enjoying a crisp autumn round at Occano, take a moment to appreciate the work taking place beyond the fairways. Every pristine putting surface, every well-maintained bunker, and every beautifully framed hole reflects the dedication of a team committed to delivering an exceptional golf experience every day.

Groundskeeping Excellence
Every smooth putt, firm fairway, and pristine bunker begins with the dedication of the agronomy team.
