OCTOBER 2026

From the Clubhouse

It's election time at TTC! Look for email ballots arriving on October 26 so you can select our next 3 members of the Board of Directors. We need 25% participation in this for the election to be valid, so please take a moment and return the ballot when you receive it.

A couple of important events to note that are coming up at the club:

October 9--VTA/Adult 105 Showdown Sign up to play with some of our high performance juniors, or just come out and watch the action!

October 23-25 OSU Fall Invitational

November 13-15 USTA Level 5 Boys Tournament

November 16 "Club Night", the TTC annual membership meeting

December 5-6 Oregon UTR Champoionships

December 12 Reindeer Games

In particular, I want to highlight the annual meeting on November 16. We'll be doing a potluck dessert night, so bring your favorite treat to share, and the Board and staff will present the "state of the club"--a financial report, what the Board is working on, what to expect in the future at TTC, etc. We'll have time for Q & A, and it's yet another opportunity to get together with your fellow members and talk about the club and its direction. RSVP, and we'll see you there!

Also, please read the piece below on the upcoming change to credit card transactions at the club. October will be the month to change your payment method if you want to avoid this fee in the future, and we'll give you help on how to get that done. Just don't want anyone to get caught by surprise in November. Have a great October!

3% Credit Card Convenience Fees

on all credit card transactions at TTC

beginning November 1

Starting in November, the club will begin assessing a 3% convenience fee for all sales and payments by credit card. We know that most of you pay by credit card.

We'll offer other options to allow you to avoid that convenience fee. These will include:

  • monthy automatic ACH bank withdrawl (this will involve securely storing your bank account/routing number in your Racquetdesk account--we'll send a specific email soon about how to do this)
  • you can set up auto-bill-pay though your bank (subject to late fees)
  • pay by check (subject to late fees)
  • pay by cash (subject to late fees)

Remember, this won't start until transactions that post on November 1,
but you if you want to change from a credit card you have stored in Racquetdesk,
you'll have to remove that card by October 31.

ADULT/VTA 105 SHOWDOWN

This event was a huge hit in April, so we're doing it again!

Deadline is October 6

for VTA Intermediate and Elite level Juniors, and 3.5+ Adults!!

We'd also love people to come and watch this great tennis event--there will be pizza and a prize drawing for spectators.

Thanks to Jodi Elliott at Connected Real Estate Group for sponsoring this event!

OSU FALL INVITATIONAL

OCTOBER 23-25

at OSU Indoor Courts & Timberhill Tennis Club

Note that the club is renting out a few courts to the OSU Club Tennis team for their fall invitational Fri-Sun, Oct 23-25. This will cause courts to be in shorter supply than normal on those days. We'll keep the court bookings updated to ensure that courts stay as available as possible. Thanks for your patience during this event!

Hemant Bhanoo

You may recognize my son Keshav. He's at TTC a lot more than me, and has been a passionate tennis player since the age of 4.

Our family of four moved to Corvallis in 2022 and have really enjoyed learning and playing tennis at TTC; slowly increasing our involvement to where we are there almost every day of the week.

As we've attended youth tournaments in the PNW region and chatted with other parents, it's become apparent how special it is that we in Corvallis have such a strong youth tennis program, and a supportive club.

I grew up in Singapore and India playing mainly badminton and squash but have tried to learn tennis a few times in the past five decades. Now that both of our kids enjoy tennis, I'm trying hard to get better at it, while battling the various pulls, strains, and ouches that remind me that I'm no longer 20.

I've had a career as a software engineer working at companies like Amazon and Google as well as several startups. I've also spent over a decade teaching mindfulness at organizations worldwide and currently teach a class at OSU's 'Marigold' downtown. Neither of those skills may be directly useful to our club, but I'm happy to help however I can.

Corinne Roberts

I joined TTC in September of 2023 after taking a Corvallis Recreation class to see if I could handle getting back into tennis after many years away from the sport and a knee injury. In the beginning, going to the club was about drills and testing my form. It didn’t take long before the buzz was more about the people at TTC than the tennis. I’m a firm believer in “you get what you give”, and I know the wonderful facilities and activities at TTC don’t magically appear. After getting to know more members and staff, I’m ready to take a turn at doing some of the “work” for TTC.

Before retiring to Oregon in 2021, I had a long career in transportation planning for local government, primarily on state and federal grant administration. I’ve been known to be a serial joiner of boards. I served on the boards of Women’s Transportation Seminar, Moraga Horsemen’s Association, Pony Club of America, an HOA, and served as a trustee of my church in California, led my daughter’s Girl Scout Troop, and served on various neighborhood committees.

Thank you for voting!

Nicholas Weaver

Hi, I’m Nicholas Weaver! I started playing tennis at Timberhill in 2012 and it has been the one constant in my life ever since. I rejoined as a member in 2022 thanks to Maysa and have been so happy to return to the fold! Now I’d like to give back to the club as a member of the board.

In addition to being the head girls tennis coach at Corvallis High School, I am an Accountant working for OSU. Since my undergrad is in Accountancy and Finance, I have a good background in monetary matters, in addition to the leadership experience gained from coaching, so I think I have a good base of experience to bring to the board.

Looking forward to hopefully serving you all!

LOOKING FOR TIMBERHILL TENNIS CLUB MERCH?

even though we stopped doing special orders for TTC tshirts and sweatshirts a few years ago, those items still remain and are seen being worn by our members and staff. We do have an online store where you can order lots of different items--tshirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, shorts, beanies, etc. It is all housed by Squadlocker.com, and a small part of the proceeds does come back to the club. So if you want to show that club spirit, pick up an item and wear it proudly!

UPCOMING JUNIOR PLAY EVENTS

Fall Junior Clinic Registration

A big change we have made is to bring our traditional high-school track "Core" classes under the umbrella of Valley Tennis Academy. So all classes from orange ball up will have the option of training with our coaches three times per week for faster progression! We're really excited about the changes to the program--you can see more info by clicking the button to the right.

ALEX FORTUNE SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Just a reminder that we still have money available in the Alex Fortune Scholarship Fund. If you qualify, this will pay up to 75% of class fees toward junior classes at TTC. It's a great opportunity to help offset the financial barrier to kids' tennis if you qualify. Click the link below for qualifying criteria and an application.
