Welcome to our newsletter. Once a month we will update you with news about David Matero Architecture and our community. We welcome your comments, questions and feedback.

Elizabeth "Betty" Snowman

We unexpectedly and suddenly lost David's dear mother, Betty Snowman, on September 19. It's most heartbreaking because she was so happy and excited to be great grandmom to Cooper, Audrey, and Theo, born just a couple months apart. Betty was very active in in her crafting business (My Comfort Clothes), was a big supporter of live theater, and loved spending time with her many friends and family. Siblings, David, Karen, and Tim are going to bring her remaining inventory to two upcoming craft shows this holiday season, and say goodbye to her crafting friends. A memorial service will be held in South Paris on October 17. You can read her obituary here.

Maine Branch Yoga Barn

The Maine Branch Yoga Barn will be completed later this month, and items like built-in beds and fixtures are being installed. The window trim color creates a wonderful and whimsical entrance to the property, but still represent a serious and thoughtful design aesthetic. Construction by Chartier Building & Remodeling.

Goose Rock Two

Ten years ago, we transformed a raised ranch into Goose Rock - a clean contemporary home that was featured in Maine Homes by Downeast in 2019. A decade later, the home has new owners and is starting a new chapter. In need of additional bedrooms, the owners wanted to expand the home without drastically changing the aesthetic. We designed a separate addition connected to the main home via a bridge. The new wing provides three bedrooms and a small common room for family to gather and allows the original architecture to remain intact. Construction is now underway on Goose Rock Two with the same builder from the original project, Corey Rattleff.

Views from the Jobsite

The first floor at Gnome Home will be exposed polished concrete for durability and maintenance, as well as part of the heating and cooling system. The client is pictured throwing colored glass into the slab to broadcast color and style into the floor. Once the floor is cured, it will be ground and polished to enhance the color of the floor. Construction by Chartier Building & Remodeling.

On the Drawing Board

Not far from Goose Rock Two is a small addition we are designing for a growing family. A new secondary primary bedroom wing will provide additional space for the grandkids. There is still internal family discussions on a couple of design items, but the original contractor for the main house, RW Stevens Inc, has this on their schedule for next year.
