Tour de Northside and Northside Festival

Our 9th annual Tour de Northside will be held on Saturday, November 12, and we hope you will join us for this chance to see the growth in our community by bike.

The 10-mile ride starts at 8 a.m. at Saint Arnold Brewing Company, 2000 Lyons Avenue, and includes notable sites in the Greater Northside, including a water stop at the Houston Farmers Market.

Following the ride, the first annual Northside Festival will be held at the University of Houston Downtown Science & Technology Building, 315 North Main Street. The festival opens at 10 a.m.; is free; and features an art market, music, a salsa tasting contest and more!

Capital Improvement Projects Meeting

Another important event on our calendar is the Tuesday, November 1, Capital Improvement Projects meeting at noon at Catrinas Mexican Grill, 5517 Airline Drive. Come learn about projects to improve the Greater Northside while enjoying free appetizers.

National Night Out

We enjoyed seeing many members of the Greater Northside community during the National Night Out events held this month. Please don't forget, if you see something, say something.

Wild Oats, a restaurant in the Houston Farmers Market, was recently featured by PaperCity, an online magazine that reviews Texas' top restaurants, real estate, society, fashion, art news and more.

PaperCity said this about the restaurant:

"Wild Oats is a worthy destination in itself. The next time you’re itching for a fun (and even family-oriented) outing, meander your way through the stalls of this bustling market, then sit down and refuel at Wild Oats. This still newish Houston restaurant is open for lunch, dinner and even weekend brunch. (Save for Mondays and Tuesdays when the farmers market is open, but alas, Wild Oats is not.)

"With indoor-and-outdoor seating, Wild Oats’ vibe conjures a place where the scenic countryside of the Texas hill country meets the rowdy, bull-riding cowboy set at the legendary Texas haunt of Gilley’s. The restaurant is spearheaded by partner/chef Nick Fine, a San Antonio native turned Houstonian.

Texas chili is made as authentic as it gets and served at Wild Oats with a side of crunchy Fritos.

No ordinary chicken fried steak will do at Wild Oats. This one is created with Wagyu beef.

Halloween Celebration at Saint Arnold

Saint Arnold Brewing Company will celebrate Halloween on Thursday, October 27, in their Beer Garden.

Get dressed up and join Saint Arnold for a 5 p.m. cask tapping of their 2022 Pumpkinator. At 7:30 p.m., costume contests will begin - one for dogs and one for humans! Entry is free; just sign up at the host stand when you arrive. Prizes will be awarded to the winners, including a bonus prize for the best dog/human-coordinated costume.

METRO recently unveiled a bus shelter at Northside High School memorializing Near Northside resident Josue Flores and commemorating what would have been his graduation from the school in May 2022.

Josue's family, Northside High School faculty and students, community partners and METRO leadership attended the event to celebrate Josue's life and legacy.

"It has been more than six years since 11-year-old Josue Flores was killed while walking home from school," said METRO Board Chair Sanjay Ramabhadran. "It was a nightmare that no parent should have ever experienced and no community should have ever endured."
