Cholla District Weekly Update
October 24, 2025
| | | |
Dear Cholla Residents,
With all of the rain over the last few weeks, it is easy to overlook areas in your yards with standing water that can quickly become breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Mosquito bites are more than an irritation. They can cause serious illnesses that sometimes turn fatal.
Tip and toss even the smallest amounts of standing water from your home and yard. Plant pots, bird baths, kiddie pools, buckets, and fountains are some of the places where mosquitoes can breed. View a Backyard Checklist provided by Maricopa County to help prevent mosquitoes from breeding around your home.
Maricopa County Environmental Services conducts year-round surveillance and abatement of mosquitoes. Their Vector Control Division deploys routine mosquito traps every week additional complaint driven traps to collect mosquitoes. Visit their web site to file a complaint, view current complaints, and view the mosquito management map to show current traps and fogging schedules in your area.
If you are currently experiencing a mosquito problem in your neighborhood, please contact the county to file a complaint and request traps or other services. Additionally, mosquito-eating fish (Gambusia) are available free of charge. To confirm their availability and schedule a pick-up during office hours, please call (602) 506-0700. It is important we all do what we can to prevent mosquito-borne illnesses.
