Highlights in Recognition - October 21st Board of Supervisors Meeting

At its October 21st meeting, the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors honored several important observances and community contributions. The Board recognized Latin Heritage Month, Community Media Day and Head Start Awareness Month, celebrating cultural diversity and the vital role early childhood education plays in supporting families. In addition, the Board proclaimed October 20th as Donna Arganbright Day, acknowledging Lafayette resident Donna Argenbright's outstanding service and dedication to the arts. The Board also recognized Community Media Day, highlighting the importance of local media in promoting civic engagement and public awareness.

Supervisor Andersen and the Board of Supervisors honor Donna Argenbright, retiring from the Lamorinda Arts Association. Joining in the celebration of her many years of service and dedication to the arts community were fellow LAA Board Members.

Board of Supervisors Community Impact Fund Discussion Rescheduled to November 18th

Thank you to everyone who has actively participated in the Community Impact Fund process.

To allow for additional outreach and community input, the Board of Supervisors has rescheduled the Community Impact Fund discussion to November 18th. At that meeting, the County Administrator’s Office will also provide an update on the Community Survey and share preliminary information on State and Federal budget impacts.

This extension from October 21st to November 18th allows for broader community input, ensuring the process captures a full and accurate picture of our communities, the current needs, strengths, and aspirations. By allowing additional time, we can better engage all areas of our County to ensure that every voice is heard. The Board remains committed to a transparent, community-driven approach that aligns future investments with the priorities of Contra Costa County residents.

Contra Costa Association of Realtors Event

This week Supervisor Andersen attended the Contra Costa Association of Realtors (CCAR) Service to the Communities Reception. She is pictured below with CCAR Board Members Ruthie Abelson Olivas, Aeysha Corio, Debi Mackey, and Chief Advocacy Officer Heather Schiffman.  

The CCAR was founded in 1921 with a commitment to provide real estate professionals, homeowners and the local community with the highest level of service, advocacy and professionalism possible.

California Allocates Funds to Repair the I-680 On-Ramp at El Cerro Boulevard, Danville

The Governors Office has announced approval of a $5M project in Danville. As a result of heavy winter rains during January and February of 2025, the I-680 El Cerro Boulevard on ramp was damaged in three locations due to saturated soils, erosion, and earth movement. The damage includes roadway settlement, leaning sound wall, and slope erosion. CalTrans will repair the roadway using polyurethane injection and grind and pave methods, replace the damaged portion of the sound wall, reconstruct the guardrail, stabilize the slope embankment, and put in place erosion controls. No timeline has been provided at this time.

Every Step Matters - Domestic Violence Awareness Walk

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and we invite you to stand in solidarity and strength at the Domestic Violence Awareness Walk on Saturday, October 25th, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, in front of San Ramon City Hall (Central Park).

This community gathering is a powerful opportunity to raise awareness, support survivors, and advocate for a violence-free future. Wear purple to show your support and help spread the message.

The event is hosted in collaboration with local partners including Narika, Rewire Community, Family Justice Center, PFLAG Danville/San Ramon Valley, the City of San Ramon, and more.

Nominations Open for the 48th Annual Humanitarian of the Year!

Each year, the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors honors two Humanitarians of the Year:

• A High School Student who inspires others by living out the values of kindness, justice, and leadership, and
• An Adult who exemplifies Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy through service, leadership, and compassion.

The Humanitarian of the Year award recognizes individuals who bring people together, act for justice, and inspire others to make positive changes, whether through community work, advocacy, mentorship, or everyday acts of kindness.

This year’s theme:

✨ “Democracy as a Verb: Building on Dr. King’s Legacy in Contra Costa” ✨

From fresh, local produce to handmade goods, our farmers markets flourish thanks to dedicated vendors, supportive communities, and the hard-working Agriculture/Weights & Measures team. Behind the scenes, this team ensures accurate scales, safe food, and a strong local food system - so the community can enjoy the very best each season has to offer. The Office of Communications & Media recently partnered with the Agriculture/Weights & Measures team to bring you a new series of seasonal, informative and engaging stories, the most recent one is a Farmers Market Video.

Ballots for the Upcoming Statewide Special Election are in the Mail

Registered voters in Contra Costa County will begin receiving their Official Ballots soon for the November 4th Statewide Special Election. If you have not yet received your ballot, call the Elections Office at 925-335-7800.

Key Dates:

• Oct 6: Early voting began at the Elections Office (555 Escobar St., Martinez)
• Oct 31: Regional Early Voting sites open
• Nov 4: Election Day – Polls open 7AM to 8PM (ballots must be postmarked by this date)

Ways to Vote:

• By mail (no postage required)
• Drop off at any of the 45 secure drop boxes in the county
• In person at the Elections Office or Early Voting sites

Support Community - Join the Turkey Drive!

This holiday season, support families in need through the Community Turkey Drive. You can help ensure everyone enjoys a warm Thanksgiving meal by participating in one of two simple ways:

1) Pledge a Turkey: Make a $22 tax-deductible donation to provide a turkey for a local family

2) Donate a Frozen Turkey: Purchase an 8-12lb frozen turkey and drop it off at a Community Drop-Off Event, either November 15th or November 19th.

The donated turkeys will be provided to faith groups in the East Bay for individuals/families needing some extra help this Thanksgiving.

Celebrate Fall with the Annual Danville Scarecrow Stroll 



The Town of Danville’s annual Scarecrow Stroll runs from October 10th through November 10th, featuring creatively designed scarecrows by local businesses, organizations, and community groups throughout downtown and other locations. Visitors can enjoy a self-guided stroll, vote online for their favorite scarecrow, and enter to win prizes, while participating businesses offer seasonal promotions. This free, family-friendly event is a festive way to celebrate fall, shop local, and experience Danville’s small-town charm.

 Now Is the Right Time to Get Updated COVID and Flu Vaccines 

Bay Area health officials are urging residents to get the updated fall 2025 flu and COVID vaccines, now available at pharmacies and doctors’ offices across the region. Everyone 6 months and older is recommended to receive both vaccines, which are safe, effective, and help prevent severe illness and hospitalizations. The updated COVID vaccine is especially encouraged for older adults, pregnant women, young children, and those at higher risk of serious illness. Despite federal policy changes, both vaccines remain free or low-cost for Californians with state-regulated health insurance.

If you are having difficulty finding a provider offering COVID shots for your child aged 6 months to 2 years, please call your local health department, consult your pediatrician, or go to the State’s MyTurn website myturn.ca.gov.

Affordable Housing Finance Committee 

Contra Costa County is seeking applicants to fill four vacancies on the Affordable Housing Finance Committee (AHFC), representing West County (City), East County (Unincorporated), Central County (Unincorporated), and a Community/At-Large seat. Candidates must live in an eligible district and have professional experience in affordable housing finance, development, design, or property management. The committee reviews and advises on funding recommendations for programs such as HOME, CDBG, and Measure X Housing funds. Applications are due by 5 PM on Monday, October 27th, with public interviews scheduled via Zoom on Monday, November 24th.

Public Law Library Board of Trustees

Contra Costa County is accepting applications for one volunteer position on the Public Law Library Board of Trustees. The Board oversees the policies, finances, and operations of the County Law Library in Martinez. Eligible applicants must be County residents and members of the State Bar. The one-year term runs from January 1 through December 31, 2026. Applications are due by 5 PM on Friday, November 7th, with virtual interviews on Monday, November 24th.
