Our moral imperative to act on climate change -- and 3 steps we can take

On Oct. 10, 2020 the Vatican released a TEDx Climate Change talk in which Pope Francis participated. The Pope stressed that we have a moral imperative to act on climate change. He said we must make a choice “between what matters, and what doesn’t. The choice between continuing to ignore the suffering of the poorest and to abuse our common home, our planet, or engaging at every level to transform the way we act.”

Presenting a three-part action plan, the Pope Francis said change must begin with:

1. Education for the care of our common home, developing the understanding that our environmental problems are linked to human consumption.

2. Securing water and food sources to ensure access to safe drinking water and adequate food for all the world's people.

3. Developing an Energy transition plan without delay, from fossil fuels to clean energy alternatives.

Let’s start with voting for leaders who will work for cleaner air and water. Leaders who will commit to environmentally friendly sources of energy and who will fund job training for workers to build and maintain the new climate friendly infrastructure.
“The Earth must be worked and nursed, cultivated and protected,” Pope Francis said. “We cannot continue to squeeze it like an orange.”
FAITH FORMATION & SPIRITUALITY
FAMILY REFLECTION AND ACTION
October 25, 2020 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Exodus 22:20-26 • 1 Thessalonians 1:5c-10 • Matthew 22:34-40
“You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” —Matt. 22:37

I really love watching TV. I also really love eating ice cream. I especially love getting presents. But this kind of love always leaves me wanting more and never feeling satisfied. Jesus gave us hints of how we could be truly fulfilled, by turning our focus to God and giving him all the love we have inside ourselves. By giving God all the love we have inside of us, we are able to give him the credit he deserves for all the good things in our lives, which in turn can also help us appreciate them more. What an awesome God we have, so deserving of all our love.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for loving me more than I could ever understand. Please help me to love you with all the love I have, to show you how glad I am to be your child.

What are some things that you “love” that can get in the way of your love for God?
