Reflections for Sunday October 27th on John 8:31-36
Each week, Pastor Sarah will provide reflections on the readings for the following Sunday.

Freedom is something we hear a lot about in the United States. In popular culture it has come to mean something like being allowed to do whatever you want whenever you want. Unfortunately, that isn't true freedom. That is selfishness. Jesus has a different kind of freedom in mind when he says, " So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed." This is true freedom. This is the freedom to rely on God instead of the false sense of security that idols offer. This is the freedom to shed our need for certainty and rest in grace. This is the freedom to experience God's loving kindness in ways never expected. It is also a freedom for generosity. A freedom for giving grace to others. A freedom for inviting others into God's loving kindness.

+ What are some of the false freedoms you have trusted in your past?
+ What new freedom have you discovered in Jesus?

Family Devotion
Each week, Pastor Sarah will provide a short devotion for families based on a reading for the following Sunday.

Read:  Psalm 46
Bring it home:
These are some questions or activities to help you think and talk about the reading as a family.

+ Verse 1 says: "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." What does it mean that God is our refuge and strength?
+ Verse 10 says, "Be still and know that I am God." This is a very famous verse in the Bible. Can you be very still for 30 seconds? One minute? Have someone time you and see how long you can be still. While you are keeping your body still, think about God's love. Maybe say, "Thank you for loving me God," over and over in your mind.

Consider lighting a candle or having a cross to look at while you pray.
Did you know that drawing can be prayer? Draw a picture of something or someone that God loves. When you are finished, say, "Thank you, God."
Sunday's Readings
First: Jeremiah 31:31-34
Psalm: Psalm 46
Second: Romans 3:19-28
Gospel: John 8:31-36
Service Opportunities at Saint Paul Lutheran!
Each week we will highlight opportunities for you to serve in your congregation. Watch this space for details!

  • Building Cleaning: You are needed to clean your church! Each week members of our congregation clean the building. It is your turn!  Please sign up on the clipboard at the welcome center. A list of duties is attached to the sign up.

Make it a family event! Clean on an afternoon then get pizza for dinner to celebrate your service!

Two members have covered the cleaning for September and October but they will be gone in November. WE NEED YOU!

If you or your family use a space in the building, please remember to clean it up when you are done. Leave it nicer than you found it as a welcome to the next people who will be there. Think of it as Paying it Forward.
