And Finally....

From Walker's to The Broadway to Sears to a New Retailer

BREAKING NEWS: a new retail tenant will be moving into the former Sears building in the Los Altos Shopping Center. We will be meeting with the building owner and the new tenant next Tuesday to get all the details, and that information will be provided in next week’s newsletter. It was 68 years ago, November 1955, that Walker's Department Store opened in the new Los Altos Shopping Center. Just a year later, the store was sold and rebranded as The Broadway. In 1963, a third story was added, and The Broadway ended up serving as the anchor store of the shopping center for 40 years. In November 1995, a month after purchasing the 82-store Broadway chain, Federated Department Stores announced the Los Altos store was being sold to Sears. The conversion to Sears was completed the following year, and the newly remodeled shopping center opened with a new anchor store. We are now headed into a new era with the fourth retailer to occupy the space. Stay tuned!
