This Sunday, November 2, 2025, will be the 21st Sunday after Pentecost.

It is also All Saints Sunday

The Scripture will be Psalm 40.2-4

The sermon is titled,

Sing the Songs of Zion

We're hoping to see you this Sunday!

Don't forget to turn your clocks BACK Saturday night before going to bed! The time changes, we get an extra hour to sleep, and who doesn't need that?

Discovery Music

This week, Discovery Band will open the Praise and Worship portion of the service with Come Thou Fount and close with another new song,

Holy Forever, both recorded by Chris Tomlin.

Attention Junior Youth and Tiny Tots. We will meet this Sunday after worship in the Disciple Center for pizza, crafts and games. Wear comfortable shoes for running. See you Sunday and let’s have fun.

Charge Conference

Charge Conference will be held on Saturday, Nov 1st at Amelon United Methodist Church in Madison Heights from 2:30 - 4 PM.

All are invited and welcomed!

Last week to donate!!

Please help us meet our fundraising goal for the Fall by donating during the month of October! Ms. Debbie will be taking a pie to the face for every $1,000 raised!  We accept cash or check (please include "Preschool" in the notes/memo of the check).

Our Preschool friends are having a great week, learning about pumpkins, apples, and the changing season. In chapel, we are learning about Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, and how the family of God grew and grew. We are learning how God always keeps his promises, and we can trust Him!

PRESCHOOL NEWS

Coats for Kids

The Missions Team is sponsoring a Coats for Kids drive for the children at Bridges Treatment Center to run from October 8 through

November 2. There will be a collection box for new or gently used coats and jackets for youth of all sizes located outside the church office (please do not use the coat rack). Bridges Treatment Center serves boys and girls from ages 6 to 17; often these children come to reside at the center without a coat of any kind, and this need is especially critical as the weather gets colder. Thank you for supporting these youth who are at a crossroads in life, please keep them in your prayers.

RISE AGAINST HUNGER

Thank you to everyone who helped with the Rise Against Hunger meal packaging event on Sunday! We had fun and worked hard packing 10,000 meals for people in need. We were told that the meals we packed will most likely be sent to the Philippines, where they have experienced four significant earthquakes in the past three weeks. We are short of our goal of

$4,100 to cover the cost of the meals we packed. Please consider contributing by check marked "Rise Against Hunger" or by using the link included. Thanks again!

Welcome Center on Sunday Mornings!

We are seeking volunteers to help with our Sunday morning hospitality. On Sunday mornings, snacks, coffee, and water are available in the Welcome Center before each service. Pre-packaged snacks are readily available and should be supplemented with fresh items you can easily pick up at your local grocery store. Folks who sign up need to have the Welcome Center ready at 8:45 and clean up after the worship service.More volunteers are needed to buy and put out the snacks on Sunday mornings, make the coffee, and clean up after the worship service (typically takes 15 minutes). More specific directions will be posted in the hospitality kitchen off the narthex. If you can help with hospitality this way, please click the link HERE. Thank you!

You Can Give to Heritage UMC (a Qualified Charity) to satisfy your Required Minimum Distribution!

For 2025, the Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) limit is $108,000 per person, and custodians are required to report QCDs separately using Code Y on Form 1099-R. Individuals aged 70½ or older can use a QCD to fulfill their IRA Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) while excluding the distribution from income.

2025 QCD limits and rules

  • Annual limit: The maximum QCD an individual can make is $108,000.
  • Married couples: Both spouses, if they qualify, can each make a QCD of up to $108,000.
  • Age requirement: You must be age 70½ or older at the time of the distribution.
  • Fulfillment of RMD: A QCD can be used to satisfy your IRA Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) for the year.
  • Standard deduction: You can use a QCD even if you do not itemize deductions. The amount distributed is excluded from income, which is often more beneficial than an itemized deduction.
  • Reporting requirements: For 2025 tax filings, custodians must report QCDs separately using Code Y in Box 7 of Form 1099-R to help with compliance.

Key takeaways

  • Prioritize QCDs: It is generally more tax-efficient to fulfill your RMD with a QCD if possible, as the amount is not taxed.
  • Stay organized: Even with the new reporting codes, it is still the taxpayer's responsibility to ensure all QCD requirements are met. Keep all supporting documents, such as acknowledgments from the charity and custodian records.
  • Timing is crucial: A QCD for 2025 must be completed by December 31, 2025
