Racial Justice Workshop - Guest Speaker!

Racial Justice Workshop

Sunday, November 2, 9, and 16 during Faith Formation

The Racial Healing Team invites you to participate in our November Faith Formation focused on Racial Justice Workshop. Facilitated by the YWCA, the first three Sundays in November, the purpose of the workshop is to become familiar with some of the shared language and concepts related to racial justice, develop an understanding of how racism shows up in our everyday lives, and explore the history of racial (in)justice in Asheville and beyond. Our previous workshop in May was very successful and educational, but a little too short. We look forward to inviting everyone, previous and new participants as we take a deeper look at the systems and thought patterns that perpetrate racial injustice and what we can do to stand with our brothers and sisters in Christ to bring near God’s Kingdom here on earth.

Announcements

Organ Recital

November 1, 3:00pm · St. Mark’s Lutheran Church

Our pipe organ is one of the finest in western North Carolina, and is a great example of mechanical action – that is, the keys are directly linked to the pipes via pieces of wood that run underneath the chancel floor. Come and hear local organ recitalist Gray Pearson present an exciting program highlighting the many sounds of the organ. This concert is free and open to the public, and will include a light reception afterward.

All Saints Sunday

Sunday, November 2

Halloween is a contraction of “All Hallow’s Eve” – the night before All Hallow’s Day. On the Sunday closest to this day we remember all the saints who “from their labors rest.” It is a day of remembrance and of rejoicing. If you haven't had a chance to bring a picture by the church office, you are invited to bring a picture of your loved ones from any time to be displayed Sunday. Please place it on the available tables before worship begins.

November Food Ingathering

Please take a grocery bag home with you that you will find in your pew this Sunday, and fill it with groceries for the ABCCM pantry. Suggested items are listed on the bag label, but other non-perishable food items are welcomed too. Please return your donations by Sunday, November 16, placing your bag(s) in the hallway by the playground doors. In our two previous Ingathering collections, we collected over 1000 lbs of food items. Let's do it again!

Christmas Pageant Invitation

You are invited! Help share the story of Christmas this year!

Children, youth, and adults are invited to participate in our Christmas pageant on December 21, 2025 during the 11am service. Pageant participants and adult helpers are asked to fill out this form to sign up. Questions? Contact Deacon Katie

Stewardship Campaign

As St. Mark’s makes plans for what our ministry will look like in 2026, thank you for your generous support of this ministry and for completing your intents for 2026! If you have not had a chance to submit your intent, there is still time!  You can return a paper intent card or accessing the online form below. Questions? Contact Danielle in the Church Office!

Lilly Clergy Renewal Grant

St. Mark's has received a grant of $48,000 to enable Pastor Matt to participate in the 2025 National Clergy Renewal Program during his Sabbatical in May, June, and July of 2026. St. Mark's is one of 200 congregations across the United States selected to participate in this competitive grant program, which is funded by Lilly Endowment Inc. and administered by Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis. Established by the Endowment in 2000, the program’s grants allow Christian congregations to support their pastors with the gift of extended time away from their ministerial duties and responsibilities.
