PARISH UPDATE | October 3, 2020
During this fourth week, we focus on the Life and Dignity of the Human Person which is also the focus of Respect Life Sunday. The Church teaches that we are all created in the image and likeness of God. Because of this fact, every human life is sacred. Every life is worth living. There is nothing anyone can do to take this dignity away. All of our Catholic social teaching flows from this principle. People are more important than things. Under this principle fall issues such as abortion, racism, war and terrorism, the death penalty, and assisted suicide.
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS
Become a Knight Today!

AN INVITATION TO JOIN A few weeks ago the McGarry family was presented with the Knights of Columbus Family of the Year Award. Then came the announcement that the Fr. Aufderheide Council 12912 of St. Christopher Parish had been awarded the distinction of Gold Star Council, the international organization’s top honor for local councils. They were one of 18 out of 387 councils in state of Ohio that received this prestigious award.

Now, because of the COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing restrictions, the Knights
are not able to conduct their traditional Recruiting Event with representatives in the Gathering Space after all the weekend Masses. Instead, they have placed forms with instructions on how to join on the wall between the Lay Ministers and Sacristy rooms in the Gathering Space.

Membership in the Knights of Columbus is open to men 18 years of age or older who are practical (that is, practicing) Catholics. For more information on joining the Knights of Columbus contact your local Membership Director Bill Hagerty whagerty1@who.rr.com or go to kofc.org and select JOIN. Both methods provide instructions on how to login to the 30-minute virtual initiation ceremony from the privacy of your own home – it’s that simple.

How much time you give is totally up to you. Please consider joining.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR THE FOOD DRIVE

Due to COVID, this year’s Vandalia Butler Food Pantry 2020 Food Drive will be different. There will be no collecting or sorting of food this year. Instead, we will be delivering flyers to homes that ask for monetary donations, which they will make online. There will be no face-to-face contact with residents. Volunteers will be needed on Saturday, October 10th at 9:00am to pick up the flyers and deliver them.

Last year we collected $22,000 in canned goods. This year, because of the need, we hope to collect $22,500 in monetary donations. We’ve expanded the distribution areas so as to involve more households in caring for their neighbors in need. Therefore, we need many more volunteers to distribute flyers to homes this year. Please email Andrea Parker to sign up or for more information.

DRIVE THRU RECONCILIATION

Fr. Smith is now offering drive thru reconciliation in the Prayer Garden parking lot at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Tipp City on Wednesdays & Fridays, 12pm-1pm [Rain or Shine].
The 40 Days for Life campaign is about to begin: Sept. 23rd - Nov. 1st. We invite you to come out to the sidewalk in front of 1401 E. Stroop Rd. in Kettering to pray for the moms, dads, babies, and workers who are entering the abortion facility. There are so many other options available to moms and you are a sign of hope & love when you are present.  The vigil runs daily between the hours of 7am until 7pm, and we are asking for just 1 hour of your time.  Please give prayerful consideration in light of our call to stewardship and the giving of our time, talent, and treasures. As often is the case, the giving of our time blesses both those we serve and ourselves.
