UMCOR DISASTER RELIEF

Hurricane Helene has devastated parts of the southeastern U.S., in response, UMCOR (the United Methodist Committee on Relief) is coordinating with affected annual conferences and supporting their local relief efforts. UMCOR has awarded solidarity grants to the North and South Georgia annual conferences with multiple grants in process for other annual conferences.UMCOR-trained Early Response Teams (ERTs) are coordinating efforts to support the removal of debris, tarping of roofs, and cleaning out of homes in hard-hit areas. ASU CONCERT

The ASU Concert Choir, with Robert Bode, conductor, presents "Let the Music Fill Your Soul" on Monday, October 7, at 7:30 p.m. The performance includes special guests Ad Astra from Chandler Children's Choir, Aimee Stewart, conductor, and our own Dayspring Celebration Chorale. REGISTER TO VOTE BY OCT 7

Our participation in elections is our opportunity to vote for the values of our faith. October 7 is the deadline to register, which can be done online (by 11:59 p.m. MST), in person at your local election office, or by mail (must be postmarked by Oct. 7). Early voting begins on October 9!

SECOND SUNDAYS

October 13 is the next Second Sunday. Each month, Dayspring’s new Second Sunday open house offers a variety of food, music, and activities for all ages from 8:30am - noon. Learn more and view the October schedule!

FALL FESTIVAL

Our 19th annual Dayspring Fall Festival is on October 19 from 5-8pm. This is a church-wide event and is also open to the preschool and surrounding community. Costumes are encouraged! Join our youth as they host this evening full of fun fall themed activities for families, games, bounce houses, haunted house, trunk-or-treating and more! Watch for discounted presale tickets coming soon! Proceeds benefit the youth trip to Sierra Service Project this summer.

FAITH AND DEMOCRACY

Want to experience a celebration of an authentic Christian faith that supports a vision of a pluralistic democracy? On Sunday, October 20, from 5-8pm, come together for live music and food and hear from award-winning authors who will explore a hopeful Christian vision for a multi-racial, multi-faith democracy. The Faith and Democracy Tour features Diana Butler Bass, Author of Freeing Jesus: Rediscovering Jesus as Friend, Teacher, Savior, Lord, Way, and Presence; Kristin Du Mez, Author of Jesus and John Wayne: How White Evangelicals Corrupted a Faith and Fractured a Nation; Robert P. Jones, Author of The Hidden Roots of White Supremacy and the Path to a Shared American Future; and Jemar Tisby, Author of The Spirit of Justice: True Stories of Faith, Race, and Resistance and special musical performances from Taylor Leonhardt, solo recording artst, member of Paper Horses; Fernando Ortega, Dove Award-winning singer-songwriter (“Give Me Jesus”); and Tommy Sims, Grammy Award-winning producer & singer-songwriter (Eric Clapton — “Change the World”).

Jemar Tisby will preach during the 10 a.m. service that day as well, and following the service, there will be a Q&A and book signing with Jemar Tisby and Kristin Du Mez.

VALLEY INTERFAITH ASSEMBLY

On the evening of October 24, two weeks before the November election, Valley Interfaith Project t leaders and guests will gather with public officials and candidates to discuss VIP’s agenda around

mental health, affordable housing, and neighborhood safety. Join us to hear where

candidates stand on these issues and help create a Maricopa County where everyone can thrive. The assembly is from 6:30-8:00 at Shepherd of the Hills UCC (5524 E Lafayette Blvd, Phoenix, AZ 85018). Please register HERE for the event.

When you are going through tough times, Dayspring STEPHEN MINISTERS are here to help.


Stephen Ministers are members of the Dayspring family who’ve had extensive training in listening and supporting people dealing with difficult times. If you are facing a family, financial, spiritual, or personal heartbreak, we invite you to check out Stephen Ministry… or to inquire on behalf of someone you love.

FAMILY PROMISE & UMOM COLLECTION

We are collecting donations of new, reusable water bottles, kitchen supplies, kids’ socks, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, bar soap, and Halloween costumes for Family Promise.


We are also collecting for UMOM’s Magnolia Street Donation Center. The most urgent need is for the following items (in order of need):

  • Size 3t-4t and 4t-5t Disposable Training Pants (Pull-Ups)
  • Dish Soap (in 6–10-ounce containers)
  • Bath Towels
  • Hand Towels
  • Bathmats (preferably with a non-slip backing - see sample)
  • Toilet Paper

There is a donation bin in the narthex. Thank you!
