OUR MISSION:

St. Rita School inspires students in Pre-Kindergarten through grade eight to achieve academic excellence in a safe, nurturing and faith-filled Catholic environment.

We prepare students to be morally responsible, innovative thinkers who, in today’s technology-guided global community, live and share the Love of Christ.

From the Desk of Mrs. Tiezzi

Dear SRS Parents and Guardians,

Halloween, St. Rita style, will be held tomorrow, Thursday, October 31!!! Our teachers have planned many educational and fun activities for our students for Halloween. Please refer to the email from your child’s teacher regarding costumes and the costume parade (younger students only) which will begin at about 2:00 P.M. in the parking lot. It should be a fun-filled and fright-filled day!

This Friday, November 1, is All Saints Day. The school students will be attending 12:00(noon) Mass at St. Rita Church. Parents and grandparents are invited to join us. Our PreK , kindergarten, and first grade classes will not be joining us in order to have room for all our parishioners who attend this Holy Day of Obligation.

On Saturday, November 2, from 9:00 A.M. -12:00 (noon) St. Rita School will be hosting Shred Day. For a donation of $10 a box/bag you may have all your personal and/or confidential paperwork professionally shredded. There is no limit to the number of boxes you can bring, however each box/bag is $10. Legal size boxes are $15. This event will be held in the school parking lot regardless of the weather. Cash or checks made payable to St. Rita School will be accepted at the time of service.

This coming Tuesday, November 5, is Election Day and St. Rita School will be closed. Faculty and staff members will be joining Fr. Tiano for a Faculty retreat day at OLMC. On Election Day or before, please make the time to vote. As Catholics we vote because we are citizens. As Catholic citizens we need to remember three things: respect for the dignity of each person, focus on the common good, and we have a responsibility to participate in the civic life of our nation. To better understand how to respond to our choices in this current political landscape, the United States Conference on Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has a wonderful teaching document called Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizens. To view it, please visit FaithfulCitizenship.org

On Sunday, November 17, St. Rita School will host an Open House in conjunction with Discover Catholic Schools Week, from 12:30-2:00 P.M. for prospective students and their families. Since our current families are the best ambassadors for our school, please invite your friends, neighbors, and family members to take advantage of this opportunity to tour St. Rita School. Individualized tours by our Crusader Club members and the opportunity to speak directly with our dedicated and supportive faculty will allow our visitors to hear about our strong academic programs and extracurricular offerings. More details can be found by clicking HERE.

The first trimester ends on November 21st and report cards will be issued the following week. Parents of students in grades 4-8 have access to their child’s grades. Please take the time over the next few days to look at your child’s grades along with your child, and remind him/her about his/her responsibility when it comes to completing and turning in work and making up any missed work or tests. Now is the time to have your child arrange extra help sessions if they are struggling. Do not ask your child’s teacher for any extra credit work if your child is not completing their assigned work.

It was great seeing you all at our 14th Annual Trunk or Treat last Friday evening. What a marvelous event for our families! This is the first year the Lopez Family has run the event and we are so grateful they stepped up and continued this tradition. We are also grateful to our very own DJ Dean for keeping the music rocking. Thank you to all our school families for their overwhelming support by providing the candy, the decorated trunks, and the safe space for our children to have fun! We are extremely grateful for all your support. Have a blessed week!

God Bless,

Mrs. Tiezzi

Nurse's Corner

COVID and respiratory virus policy change:

In conjunction with the health department, Hamden Public Schools and Saint Rita School will be adopting the new COVID policy.

If your child tests positive for COVID, they should stay home for 24 hours.

If they do not present with a fever , they can return to school after 24 hours. Wearing a mask for 5 days is advised as there is still a high transmission rate.

If they develop a fever, they should stay home until they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medicine. They can then return to school and it is advised that they wear a mask for 5 days.

If during the 5 day mask period they develop a fever, the clock resets. They should remain home until they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medicine. Returning to school with a mask for 5 days is advised.

Medication in school:

If your child requires medication in school, the medication must be brought in by a parent along with a Medication Administration in School

completed by the pediatrician.

Cough drops brought into school must stay in the nurse's office.

Any OTC medication should not be sent into school with your child (Advil, Tylenol, midol, allergy medicine, etc...) If your child requires any OTC medicine while at school they can go to the nurses office and a parent will be called to bring the medicine into school and administer it to their child.

PreSchool Flu Shots:

All Pre school students are required to get a flu vaccine before we leave for Christmas break. Please send in a note from the doctor after your child receives their flu shot.

7th Grade Physicals:

All students entering 7th grade must have a physical dated after May 31st of the 5th grade year. They are also required to have a tetanus booster and meningitis vaccine. If your child is in the 6th grade now, physicals for 7th grade can be sent into the health office at any time during this school year. Any physical dated after May 31, 2024 will be accepted.

Nut allergies in the classroom:

If your child is in a classroom with a student with a severe nut allergy, your child's teacher will have informed you that any foods containing nuts should only be eaten in the cafeteria. Please do not send in a snack with nut ingredients. Thank you for helping us to keep all of our students safe.

Please reach out to me at any time during the school year with any health questions or concerns.
