From the Desk of Fr. Mike Nacius, Pastor
-------One of the Spiritual Works of Mercy, encouraged for all to practice who are members of the Roman Catholic Church, is to “pray for the living and the deceased.” The Parish Office receives many requests to have a Mass offered for the repose of the soul of a deceased loved one, of a family member, or a friend. We have so many requests for Masses that our Mass intention book is often filled.

-------When a member of our family dies it is customary to have a Mass offered. My mom died earlier this year. She was a lovely woman of deep faith. When friends and parishioners heard of her death, Mass intentions came flooding. In addition to Masses being offered at St. Mary’s, Masses were also offered at the following religious communities around the country and as far away as the Vatican and parishes in Zambia. The following is a list of the communities offering Masses for Mom:

Franciscan Friars of the Atonement, Garrison, NY – Mom’s favorite prayer came from here
Sacred Heart Spiritual Society, Walls, MS
Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception, Stockbridge, MA
Sacred Heart Association, Salesian Missions, New Rochelle, NY
Divine Word Missionaries, Techny, IL
St. Lawrence Seminary, League of St. Anthony, Mt. Calvary, WI
Spiritual Enrollment, Missionary Oblates, Belleville, IL

Claretian Missionaries, National Shrine of St., Jude, Chicago, IL
Dominican Sisters of Hope, Ossining, NY
Friar Servants of Mary, Berwyn, IL - with a daily Mass offered at St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican
Franciscan Friars, Marytown, IL
Franciscan Missionaries, Waterford, WI
Franciscan Mission Associates, Mount Vernon, NY
Glenmary Home Missioners, Cincinnati, OHIO
Holy Cross Fathers, University of Notre Dame, IN
Legionaries of Christ, Seminary Mass Association- Cheshire, CT

-------May these Masses and prayers offered for the repose of the souls of deceased members of our parish and families deepen our trust in God’s promises of eternal life in our Risen Lord.

-------Tuesday, November 1 is a holy day of obligation. We come together to celebrate the Feast of All Saints – Mass will be offered at 7:30am and 7:00pm.

-------Wednesday, November 2, at 7:00pm, we offer a beautiful All Souls Memorial Mass, remembering the faithfully departed. You are invited to come support or be supported by our parishioners at this Mass for all of the deceased.

-------May God bless us with hope filled hearts,
A Brief introduction:
Our new Director of Music and Liturgy,
Marek Rachelski
-------I come to the Church of St. Mary after serving ten years in a similar position at St. John Brebeuf in Niles, IL. My life is rich in my roles as conductor, pianist/organist/harpsichordist and as collaborative artist in recital. I have appeared with orchestras in the Czech Republic, Poland, Germany, Hungary, Canada, the Prague Ballet Theater, Opera Las Vegas and People’s Valley Chorus in Nevada, and have served on the faculties of Loyola University and De Paul University.

-------Currently, I am the Resident Conductor of the Chicago Bar Association Symphony Orchestra, now in its 36th Season and the Artistic Director of the Musica Lumina Orchestra and Conductor/Founder of the Niles Metropolitan Chorus, which has performed major works of the repertoire and now celebrating its tenth year.

-------Among my compositions, I was commissioned for a setting of Psalm 145 for the St. John Paul II 1989 Papal Mass in Detroit and for a Magnificat and Anima Christi by the Lira Singers.
-------As the first Director of Recordings for World Library Publications, I recorded with members of the Lyric Opera and Chicago Symphony Choruses. As Music Editor for J. S. Paluch Company, I was a featured presenter of new music and editor/contributor of three hymnals and a five-volume series of psalm settings for the liturgical year.

-------At the beginning of my career as Assistant Conductor of the Elgin (IL) Symphony, I conducted Young People’s and Holiday Concerts and performed with Victor Borge; I was also Music Director of the Valley Civic Orchestra and conducted the Elgin Area Youth Orchestras.

-------My education includes degrees from Northwestern University, Wayne State University and the Academy of Music in Prague HAMU. I studied organ and harpsichord with Ray Ferguson and Marilyn Mason, piano with Mischa Kottler and conducting with Jiri Belohlavek, Frantisek Vajnar, Kenneth Kiesler, Robert Harris, Dennis Tini, and Joseph Labuta, and in masterclass with Jo-Michael Scheibe, Mark Gibson, John Nelson, Gustave Meier, Jorge Mester, Daniel Lewis, Leonard Slatkin, and Lorin Maazel.

-------I’m very happy to be here with you! Stay tuned for more information on Handel’s Messiah, Sunday, December 11 at 3:00pm right here at the Church of St. Mary. This holiday outreach will bring us together and with your invitation, the community will enjoy our beautiful church. In the meantime, our Choir rehearsals are 7:00pm on Thursdays: join us in the loft!

-------See www.nilesmetropolitanchorus.com for information about a concert this Sunday, October 30, at 3:00pm in Park Ridge: Music for the Queen.
Current altar servers are also invited to attend either or both sessions for a "refresher."
Great news! St. Mary’s now has a subscription to FORMED, an online collection of Catholic videos, audio books, and also a library of so many Catholic resources.

See below for instructions on how you can easily use FORMED to enrich the spiritual life of you and your family.

COR YOUTH MINISTRY
Camp Hope Halloween Party
High schoolers, please consider taking time to help at the Camp Hope Halloween Party on Sunday, October 30, from Noon until 2:00pm. Camp Hope is an organization committed to building community and offering support for teens and young adults with developmental disabilities. St. Mary's and COR have a long-standing relationship with Camp Hope, with many high schoolers helping as summer camp buddies throughout the years. The Halloween Party is a chance for campers and buddies to come together and celebrate Halloween with lunch, games, crafts, and more. Whether you've been to a COR event yet or not, all high schoolers are welcome to come to the CROYA Building (Lake Forest Rec Center) on October 30 to share lunch and help lead crafts and games. Come and experience this life-giving community! No RSVP required. If you have questions, contact Chase. Stay tuned for more details about a Camp Hope info session in November.
The Chosen Discussion Groups for High Schoolers
High schoolers, all are invited to join a watch + discussion group for the hit streaming series, "The Chosen"! This ground-breaking and powerful new series about the life and ministry of Jesus has become popular among people of all ages and all levels of Church involvement. Watching "The Chosen" with a COR discussion group is an easy, casual, and fun way to learn more about your faith and understand more about your relationship with God, yourself, and others. Discussion groups will come together to watch an episode, eat snacks, and discuss how the episode speaks to our relationship with God. If you're interested in forming a discussion group, fill out the interest form by Monday, November 7. Scan the QR codes at the church entrances or find the interest form on the COR website. Contact Chase if you have any questions or suggestions.

STEWARDSHIP
“But Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord, ‘Behold, half of my possessions, Lord, I will give to the poor, and if I extorted anything from anyone I shall repay it four times over.’” -------  LUKE 19:8
We are all called to gratefully give back to the Lord in proportion to the blessings we have been given. This means everyone isn’t called to give the same amount, but is called to give equal sacrifice. No amount is too small or insignificant! Open your heart, how is God calling you to be more generous with your financial resources and possessions?
