This Weekly Update by the Illinois School and Campus Safety Program promotes Halloween safety, provides a final chance to register for the Nov. 7th and the Nov. 10-11th classes, shares information on the Active Threat & Mental Wellness Conference, and promotes the newly scheduled classes.

I'm not sure where September went, let alone October, but here we are, on the twilight of Halloween. Whether students are K-12 or attending institutions of higher education, before they dress up and flock to the streets en masse for candy or head out for revelries, consider reviewing and sharing these Halloween Safety resources.

Advanced Digital Threat Assessment® on November 7th via Zoom

This is the last chance to register for the Advanced Digital Threat Assessment® class on November 7th via Zoom.

Building upon the Digital Threat Assessment® class by Safer Schools Together, Advanced Digital Threat Assessment® advances participants' understanding of finding and curating relevant digital information consistent with real-life digital threat assessment data gathering scenarios. Significant engagement and hands-on practice will take place.

Campus Threat Assessment and Management November 10-11th in Woodstock

This is the last chance to register for the Campus Threat Assessment and Management class in Woodstock, IL November 10-11th.

This two-day workshop for institutions of higher education will help participants to better understand the dynamics of targeted violence and to develop and enhance strategies for early identification, assessment, and intervention with concerning situations.

Save the Dates! New Trainings via Zoom in 2026

The Illinois School and Campus Safety Program is pleased to announce a new lineup of trainings being held via Zoom in 2026! We are partnering with Safer Schools Together to bring full-day trainings on Trauma-Informed Safe and Caring School Communities and on Cyberbullying, Sextortion, and the Pathway to Radicalization. There will also be monthly (excluding July & August) 2-hr Current Online Behavioral Trends and Updates classes to help keep up to date on the most recent trends and changes to the ever-changing digital landscape. Additionally, we will once again be hosting sessions of the Digital Threat Assessment® class via Zoom as well. While the registrations have not opened quite yet, you can see the dates for the trainings on our Upcoming Events page on the Illinois School and Campus Safety Resource Center website.

Campus Threat Assessment and Management December 3-4th in Chicago

The Illinois School and Campus Safety Program is pleased to announce a session of the Campus Threat Assessment and Management class is being held in Chicago, IL December 3-4th.

Preventing Targeted Violence Through Leakage and Cyber Investigations December 15-16th in Glenview

The Illinois School and Campus Safety Program is pleased to announce a session of the Preventing Targeted Violence Through Leakage and Cyber Investigations class will be held December 15-16, 2025, in Glenview, IL. Class objectives include:

• Why it is important NOT to disregard information given to LEO or school officials.
• What the term "Leakage" means and how we can interpret the information.
• Learn free and open source online investigative tools into social networks and App generated phone numbers.
• Learn to identify and collect cyber evidence to identify suspects.
• Learn the three-step process in investigating internet crimes.
• Learn the importance of Preservation, Exigent Circumstances, and Search Warrants.
• Learn how to obtain IP's, screen names, screen captures, and email headers.
• State laws: Terrorist Threat, Falsely Making a Terrorist Threat, Swatting, and Causing a Catastrophe.
• Suspect search warrant, arrest, interrogation, and mental health evaluation.
• Examine a successful cyber-crime case study investigation from start to finish.

2025 Active Threat & Mental Wellness Conference in Joliet

The Active Threat & Mental Wellness Conference in Joliet is being held November 5-7, 2025. "As an attendee, you ​will hear from those involved in some of our nation’s most noted active shooter events. Presenters will share their firsthand accounts from the event as well as the subsequent trauma and effects. The conference will help you plan strategically for preventing and responding to events, as well as prepare for the long and difficult journey of community recovery in the aftermath."
