NEW MEMBER ORIENTATION

We invite you to attend a one-hour session with Pastor Jeff to learn more about the United Methodist church and Dayspring specifically, this Sunday, November 3, following the 10:00 service. We will meet in Tempe in Room 112 as well as via Zoom if needed. Please email the church office to let us know you are interested. If this time doesn’t work for you, please contact us for alternate dates or times.

EUPHONY CONCERT

Euphony, a highly skilled choir of ASU music alumni and friends, will present “Songs and Dances” this Sunday, November 3, at 4:00pm in the sanctuary. This delightful program features the world premiere of local composer Marlynn Rey’s Tangos and also includes Romancero Gitano by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, and Five Hebrew Love Songs by Eric Whitacre. Join us for a delightful afternoon of toe-tappers under the direction of David Schildkret. Learn more and buy tickets HERE

ANNUAL CHURCH CONFERENCE

Our annual Church Conference is Monday, November 4, at 7:00pm in the Palo Verde Room. All Dayspring members are invited to join Dayspring leadership and Rev. Melissa Rynders, Superintendent of the East District of the Desert Southwest Conference for this yearly business meeting, where officers are elected for the coming year, salaries are approved, the annual reports and the overall mission and ministry of the church are reviewed.

LUTHERAN SOCIAL SERVICES

For nearly 55 years, Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest has been helping vulnerable Arizonans — the widow, orphan, stranger and our neighbor — to survive and thrive. Want to learn more about what they’re doing in our community now? Join us for a program from 6-7pm on Wednesday, November 6, in the Palo Verde Room. This “Come and See Tour” is a chance to learn how LSS-SW is making a difference and how you can be involved.

WORKING FOR PEACE AND JUSTICE IN PALESTINE AND ISRAEL

We invite you to join us Friday, November 8, at 5:30 p.m., for a talk from Palestinian Christian human rights lawyer Jonathan Kuttab, who started the well-respected Al Haq human rights organization in Palestine in 1979. He is also a co-founder of Nonviolence International. Mr. Kuttab has worked nonviolently his entire career for peace and justice in Palestine and Israel by upholding and protecting human rights.

Mr. Kuttab was the head of the Legal Committee negotiating the Cairo Agreement of 1994 between Israel and the PLO. He serves on the Board of Bethlehem Bible College and is President of the Board of Holy Land Trust. The talk will include discussion of his 2023 book, The Truth Shall Set You Free. As much about a spiritual journey as a saga of political activism, it tells the story of his Christian faith and his career as a human rights lawyer embracing nonviolent resistance in Palestine/Israel. REMEMBERING KURT HEGLAND

We mourn the passing of the passing of a longtime member of our Dayspring family, Kurt Hegland, on September 21. A skilled craftsman, Kurt was a member of the Board of Trustees and a regular volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. He joined the staff at Dayspring in May of 2015 as a part-time maintenance specialist. We will hold his memorial service on Saturday November 9, at 11:00am in the Sanctuary. Following the service, refreshments will be served in Fellowship Hall.

SECOND SUNDAY

Sunday, November 10, is the next Second Sunday! Each month, Dayspring’s new Second Sunday open house offers a variety of food, music, and activities for all ages from 8:30am - noon.

The 10am service this month will feature Vaughan Williams’s Five Mystical Songs with John Pierce Kraft as the soloist and an instrumental ensemble. These beautiful, moving pieces on deeply affecting texts will enrich your season of gratitude.

MEDITATIONS ON AMERICA

On Sunday, November 10, at 4pm, Stephanie Sadownik and Nathan Arch will present a voice and piano recital in the sanctuary. “Meditations on America: Songs by American Composers” explores the rich tapestry of American concert music and explores ways that the USA is a chorus of many voices.

WHAT’S NEXT?

Join ASU’s Center for the Study of Religion and Conflict on Wednesday, November 13, at 4:30pm at ASU for a panel discussion featuring prominent Arizona voices as we explore the results of the 2024 election, with a particular eye on religion’s influence on American political life.
