Know Your Neighbor: Spokane's 1st Cohousing Development
|
|
This group from Washington with members in all phases of their lives is trying to make this type of community a reality, by intentionally designing a neighborhood of homes that are eco-friendly and more socially oriented than most American dwellings.
They plan to share meals with each other on a regular basis, maintain shared green space, teach each other their trades and talents, keep an eye on each other's kids while they play, and
perhaps most important: They plan to really know the people who live next door.

We had some late August excitement at the Fair Oaks EcoHousing site—lot clearing and demolition! The 1950's homes that were on the 3.7-acre property were knocked down.
We are finalizing our construction loan, and construction of the future homes will be soon be underway. Our vision for this community has been four years in the making, and we are eager to get under construction.
We’ll be sharing updates with you as the community is built from start to finish. Look for our Groundbreaking Announcement in an upcoming newsletter.

Visit from National Cohousing Executive Director
|
|
Last week, the Fair Oaks EcoHousing group was honored by a visit from Karin Hoskin, Executive Director of the Cohousing Association of the U.S. Karin visited five cohousing communities in the greater Sacramento area. She was eager to learn more about us and to answer our questions. In the photo, Karin is joined by Anne Birchfield, Joy Reichard, Gina Massey, Linda Bryant, and Bob Oyafuso.

Recently two members (Marty Maskall & Joy Reichard) attended the sold-out Johnny Mathis concert at the Sacramento Community Center. Johnny is 82, and his voice is as good as ever. He opened with
Life is a Song Worth Singing -- Sing it!
and treated the audience to many other songs, including some of his greatest hits. We loved
Chances Are, The Twelfth of Never,
and
Wonderful! Wonderful!.
To us, Johnny was an inspiration -- he plans to keep performing for many more years. He does that by making sure he paces himself. What a great message for all of us!
