Dear Northwest Christian family,

NCS and Covid-19, by the numbers. If you read through the various state and county dashboards available, you can see that Covid-19 numbers are heating up around the state. A quick review of the NCS-specific numbers reveals a bit of the same but (and this is the beauty of objective, transparent, weekly reporting) this data also shows the relative scope of incidence within our community. In fact, the data shows that our incidence of Covid-19 is still very minor. Though we have had two episodes of on-campus exposure--which were successfully managed, communicated to the affected students and families, and quarantined in accordance with our Campus Readiness Plan--in seven weeks, we have yet to see our first documented case of on-campus infection. To date, in sum, we have seen one staff member and four students test positive. To be honest, I am not certain that I would have believed such was possible back in August. These numbers reveal the strength of the Campus Readiness Plan as well as the advantages of our community's collective fidelity within the plan's specifics. As you review the weekly NCS/Covid data reporting below, take a moment to celebrate God's sustaining provision and the strength that comes within being part of a unified community.

The changing landscape of Covid-19 mitigation. Despite the most recent challenge articulated in my opening paragraph, the big picture pertaining to Covid-19 infection risks within schools is tracking in a positive direction. In fact, a growing body of research is pointing towards rates of infection within schools tracking lower than expected. For this reason, we have started work on a plan which will chart our course through a gradual, metrics-based scaling back of our mitigation strategies. Our endgame will involve working with health experts, data analysts, faculty, parents, and students to understand acceptable margins of variation within the objective data we are using when that data is tracked against prior years. As yet, I do not have a timeline on announcing our gradual endgame strategy, but would rather ask that you are patient with me as I work as quickly as possible to pull these pieces together.

Parent University spaces going fast! As reported in the September newsletter, we are looking forward to two wonderful sessions of Parent University in October. With the first event--October 6th, featuring Cathi Herrod from the Center for Arizona Policy in a live town hall--already 'sold out', there remain just a few spots available in our second Parent University. On Tuesday, October 20th, we are excited to host Robby Lashua, the Pastor of Apologetics from Desert Springs Community Church, at Brickhouse Coffee at Palmcroft Church. In front of and with engaged with a crowd of parents and students, Robby will be recording his internationally acclaimed apologetics podcast, "Christ, Culture, and Coffee". Admission, dinner, and coffee are all free but spaces are going quick. For more info or to grab one of the last few spots, please click here.
