Jesus said to them, “Haven’t you ever read in the scriptures, The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. The Lord has done this, and it’s amazing in our eyes?”
(Matthew 21:42, Common English Bible)
Dear Church Hill Faith Family,
During his earthly ministry, Jesus was beloved by ordinary people who rightly understood him to be a prophet. However, the religious establishment detested him and viewed him as a dangerous radical, a blasphemer, and a threat to their power. It is a cruel irony that those who knew the scriptures best didn’t recognize Jesus as God’s Son. Those who should have been the most prepared to welcome the Messiah instead plotted to have him killed.
A cornerstone refers to a stone which is essential to holding a building together. Though Jesus’ opponents conspired to have him put to death, death could not hold him, and he was resurrected. Jesus’ resurrection proves his identity as Son of God, proves that he is exactly who he said he was. Jesus’ resurrection proves he is the one who holds all things together, the one who has freed us from the dominion of sin and death and gifts us with abundant life.
Let us rejoice and say: “The Lord has done this, and it’s amazing in our eyes”!
In Christ’s love,
Pastor Nicholas
