October, 2020
October is Manufacturing Month!

Last year, close to 1300 local students toured area manufacturing companies to learn about the industry and find out about job opportunities available in the manufacturing field. This year, instead of in person tours, video tours of manufacturing facilities will be shared with the school districts. This will expand our reach to even more middle and high school kids!

Check out the Florida Manufacturing Month Hub!

The MFG Hub will help you stay engaged and up-to-date on all Manufacturing Month events. Virtual plant tours, special events, manufacturing roundtables and educational webinars all available live online or on-demand for you to view at your leisure.

Great American Teach In (GATI)
The Great American Teach is an event held each year where members of our community are invited to share information with students about their career or hobby, organize and activity, read a story, or teach a class. This year we will be scheduling GATI speakers to join us virtually. GATI is scheduled to be held the third week of November and we will be scheduling speakers throughout the school day for 30 minutes to an hour.

BAMA has reached out to Pasco, Pinellas, Hillsborough counties to see if there is any interest in BAMA members participating. The response was YES please.

We would like to invite our members to participate in this rewarding event.
Any members that are interested in participating please let me know the area or if you have a specific school that you want to help. I will coordinate with the county and schools for this event.

How long have you been a BAMA member?
I’ve been a BAMA member about 3.5 years

What do you like most about being a BAMA member?
What I like most about being a BAMA member is learning about the various types of manufacturing taking place in the bay area and networking with other BAMA members at various events hosted by the organization.

Tell us about HRP and how your company can assist manufacturers.
HRP participates within the BAMA organization to better understand the types of challenges manufacturers face within the bay area. We’ve been assisting manufacturers in responding to the challenges presented by Covid-19 while maintaining compliance with their environmental, health and safety requirements. Especially in response to the pandemic, it was a logical pivot since we operate in the world of emergency response. HRP understands the importance of keeping business operations moving forward and offer a suite of COVID-19 health and safety services.
·       Preparedness and Planning                                       ° Covid-19 Equipment and PPE Solutions
·       Decontamination Services                                         ° Higher Education Covid-19 Playbooks
·       Construction Site Health and Safety Plans            ° Covid-19 Testing Products
The services listed are geared towards assisting our clients in adjusting their operations to mitigate the risks presented by the pandemic.  In addition, we offer free webinars to help better educate others on how to properly manage their risks. There’s a lot of companies out there who are unaware of the compliance requirements triggered by respirator use, if utilizing an N95 respirator.

HRP, for over 38 years is aggressive in identifying and implementing innovative strategies resulting in quality outcomes for our clients. Please visit www.hrpassociates.com to learn more on how we can assist your organization in balancing their requirements in these unprecedented times.

How has your involvement with BAMA influenced your career?
I believe my involvement with BAMA has influenced my career in the sense that it helps me get out of my comfort zone and engage with other manufacturers and industries in which I know little about. My engagement with BAMA and its members has helped me become more knowledgeable of the various industries within the bay area and in return, has made me a better consultant.

What do you consider your greatest accomplishment to date?
Besides the birth of my children and becoming a father, my greatest accomplishment to date within BAMA was being on the Inaugural Made In Tampa Bay Expo committee with Robert Wallace. He was a early boss of mine; it was great working with him again in standing up the MITBE Expo. Within the consulting industry my greatest accomplishment consisted of helping a campus investigate a water quality issue affecting students on campus. Using an investigative approach consisting of interviews, sampling and research we were able to identify the cause of the issue and provide a solution ensuring the safety of students and faculty.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
I would have to say it is a tie between not sweating the small stuff and don’t take yourself too seriously. We all tend to be our worst enemy. Everyone makes mistakes but what really sets you apart is how you recover from those mistakes. It goes back to the golden rules of treating everyone fairly and with respect as you never know when or who you may learn something from.

What is the most important skill you have developed in your career?
I believe the most important skill I’ve developed within my career is the ability to talk with people and develop a sense of trust by clearly stating intentions and following through on those intentions, basically, clearly communicating & follow-through. Personally, it is finding that happy work/life balance. Taking time off when my first child was born helped me to better define the boundaries between work and play moving forward in my career.

What are your hobbies or interests?
My interests are family, of course, along with science and technology. I’m a bit of a geek and love the Star Wars Universe, gaming and gadgets of all kinds. I also love to garden! When I took time off from the “work-world” to be with my first-born, I realized I could grow pretty much anything under the sun. Combining the love of science and tech, I did not just “garden” I scienced the S@1# out of it! I built my own solar powered aquaponics, aeroponics, drip irrigation, nutrient film systems, raised bed gardens, vertical systems etc. My chicken coop even has a rainwater collection system to provide them with fresh liquid sunshine!
