Board of Supervisor October 6th Meeting

On Tuesday the Board of Supervisors, who also sit as the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District's Board of Directors, recognized Fire Captain Brian George as the 2025 Firefighter of the Year, Fire Captain Karl Taugher as the 2026 Firefighter of the Year, as well as Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Peter upon his retirement.

The Board of Supervisors also declared October 2026 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. For 2026, the theme is “With Survivors, Always,” which calls on communities to move from awareness to action by standing in partnership with survivors and their children, advancing safety, support, and solidarity, and taking meaningful steps to address barriers that prevent survivors from accessing the resources and opportunities they need to heal, achieve safety, and thrive. Building Stability & Hope

in Housing

Supervisor Andersen had the pleasure of joining regional leaders at "House of Cards: Building Stability and Hope in Housing", a Tri-Valley symposium focused on addressing housing instability and creating pathways toward long-term stability.  She is standing here with James Paxon and the Keynote Speaker Dr. Amy Cole-Bloom, Sr. Director, Planning, Performance, and Strategy Housing & Homeless Services with Alameda County Health.

Supervisor Andersen moderated a panel featuring leaders from the Housing Consortium of the East Bay, Goodness Village, Trinity Center, and CityServe. The discussion highlighted the work happening on the ground to support individuals and families through shelters, transitional housing, supportive services, and other resources designed to help people move from crisis toward stability.

Hosted by the "Tri-Valley Anti-Poverty Collaborative and Tri-Valley Nonprofit Alliance", the event brought together nonprofit, government, and community partners for a morning of education, collaboration, and conversation about housing challenges throughout the Tri-Valley.

The symposium emphasized the importance of regional partnerships and coordinated solutions to help ensure residents have access to stable housing and the support they need to thrive.

EHSD is Seeking Volunteer Opportunities for CalFresh and MediCal Recipients

Contra Costa County Employment and Human Services Department (EHSD) is developing a robust referral list of community organizations and volunteer opportunities to help CalFresh and Medi-Cal recipients who need to meet work requirements while seeking employment.

Of the approximately 104,000 CalFresh recipients in Contra Costa County, fewer than 5% currently do not have an exemption or are not meeting the work requirement. For those individuals, EHSD wants to make it easier to find resources that may help them meet their requirements while also building skills, gaining experience, and connecting with their community. EHSD will provide the referral list to individuals who request information about opportunities to meet work requirements, and the list will also be available on the EHSD website.

If your agency or project has volunteer opportunities that you’d like to have listed in this referral list, please reach out to: EHSDVolunteerOps@ehsd.cccounty.us.
