D-Backs Have Our Backs

Thank you Arizona Diamondbacks!

Congrats to our Diamondbacks on a wonderful and hard-fought regular season.

They're the real MVPs of community support - raising $200,000 for Keys to Change for our work in homeless solutions right here in their backyard. Talk about hometown heroes!

To celebrate, they invited us to one of the final games of their season, against the Padres. When Diamondbacks play, the community wins. Cheers to a great season - we'll see you in the spring!

An Important Message

From our CEO, Amy Schwabenlender

In last week's blog, Amy opened up about the real and potentially devastating effects of "funding cliffs" on our clients, our staff, and the community at large.

While the work never ends at Keys to Change, funding streams often do. We're in the midst of an industry-wide reduction as emergency one-time COVID funding winds down.

Through bold leadership, we remain strong. Keys to Change is "in it for the long haul."

They Found Love in a Hope(ful) Place

Wedding Bells On Key Campus

Keys to Change employees Amber and Chris share a far from typical love story.

As told by Amber: "We met at New Freedom, a wonderful program designed for parolees acclimating back into society. It was here that we decided to be each other’s greatest support and hold one another accountable, a commitment we continue to uphold today.

One of my favorite things about Chris is that he always listens when I’ve had a tough day. He is truly my best friend, and I can be 100% myself with him. Chris’s favorite thing about me is that I bring light to every room I enter. He often says that my humor and beautiful red hair hooked him from the start!

We chose to get married on Campus because we wanted to share this beautiful moment with our clients and express that they are as much a part of our lives as we are of theirs. Keys to Change has provided Chris and me with the opportunity to grow not only within this field but also as individuals.

We see the positive impact we make in our clients’ lives and feel truly blessed to work for this amazing organization. This is why we chose to celebrate our marriage on Campus, a place that holds significant meaning for us, as we wholeheartedly believe in the work we do here.

As a married couple, we look forward to making endless memories and continuing to grow together as each other’s biggest cheerleaders!"

Congrats to the newlyweds. It is an honor to be a part of your story!

The McQuaid Mission on It Happens at STN

Season 3, Episode 2 is out now!

In last month’s episode, Richard Crews, Director of Programs at Keys to Change, likened solving homelessness to assembling a jigsaw puzzle. This week, he and Amy sat down with incoming CEO of Central Arizona Shelter Services (CASS) to talk about how we can put the pieces together as a collaborative community.

Do you want to solve homelessness in our community, but you’re not sure where to start? Watch now to find your place. Spoiler alert: there’s a puzzle piece in your hand.

Hot Beats, Cool Streets

Thank you Prime Society!

The first annual HEAT THE BEAT benefit concert was a huge success, and such a fun night!! Phoenix-based band Prime Society pulled out the stops putting together this community-led effort.

Together with The Color 8 and SAMN X, and DJ Trip Hazard, Prime Society played to a full house at There Space Studios.

All proceeds went towards heat relief efforts at Key Campus - from the hundreds of pounds of water, clothing, and hygiene items donated, to the cash collected at the door

See you next year!

Project Connect in the News

September's Project Connect in Avondale was a fantastic event!

Avondale Baptist Church is the longest-standing host site of Project Connect, opening their doors to the unhoused community for this one-day event since 2006.

Guests received real-time services and resources, while volunteers and service providers created a welcoming environment and offered a listening ear.

We can't wait to share impact results with you!

In the meantime, check out this thoughtful piece of reporting by ABC15 Arizona's Christine Stanwood.
