League of Women Voters of Salem meeting students at Salem State University's "Vikings Voterpalooza"

October 12 Panel Discussion: Ballot Question 4

On October 12 at 4 p.m., the League of Women Voters of Massachusetts and the Transportation for Massachusetts (T4MA) coalition will present “Safer Roads for a Stronger Commonwealth,” an online panel discussion about Question 4, which will be on the November 8 ballot.

A Yes vote on Question 4 will uphold the Work and Family Mobility Act, a new state law that encourages safer roads by authorizing testing and licensing for Massachusetts residents who do not have citizenship status. LWVMA is supporting Yes on 4. At this forum, hear from civic, business, transportation and public safety experts about what this law will do - and will not do - for Massachusetts. Public welcome! Register here.

LWVMA Statement on 2022 Ballot Questions

The League of Women Voters of Massachusetts endorses Yes on 4 for Safer Roads – Ballot Question 4 – and is taking no position on Ballot Questions 1-3 for the November 8 election. This means that League members may participate in Yes or No campaigns for Ballot Questions 1-3 as individuals but should not do anything to make the public think that LWVMA or a Local League has endorsed a Yes or No campaign. Ballot Question Forums

Our thanks go out to the local Leagues who are taking the lead to organize the informational forums for Ballot Questions #1, #2 and #3. Click here for the details.

Single-Payer Health Care on Ballot in 20 Districts

In addition to the statewide ballot questions, the ballot in 20 state Representative districts will have a non-binding ballot question on legislation to create a single-payer health care system in Massachusetts.

That question is sponsored by MassCare, the coalition supporting single-payer health care; LWVMA is a member of that coalition. Read more.

Legislative Transparency on Ballot in 20 Districts

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOU

Election Protection Needs Volunteers

LWVMA is working with partners ACLU Massachusetts, Common Cause, and the Urban League in an election protection effort spearheaded by Lawyers for Civil Rights. There will be opportunities to help with the November 8 general election, including monitoring polls which have historically had problems on Election Day, working in the hotline call center on Election Day (for lawyers), and working from home leading up to the election to identify misinformation on social media sites. Read more.

“Get Out The Vote” Volunteer Opportunities!

LWVUS is partnering with VOT-ER to make get-out-the-vote calls to voters who have been registered to vote by healthcare providers and organizations. Register for phonebanks by clicking here.

Poll Workers Needed!

Poll workers are needed in many cities and towns. Poll workers are hired by local election officials. Contact your town clerk or city election officer for information on eligibility, hours, training and an application. Read more.
