Jessica Fay Receives Maine Council on Aging Award
Our own State Representative, Jessica Fay received the Maine Council on Aging 2019 Legislator of the Year award at the Annual Maine Wisdom Summit. Jessica was recognized for her leadership on aging issues in Maine.

"When I first ran for office one of the things I heard from people as I campaigned was that Maine needed to do better for our aging population. It has been a focus of my work in the Legislature and to be recognized for that work is humbling. I will keep working hard on behalf of older Mainers, when our communities are a good place to age, they are a good place to live for people of all ages." Jessica Fay

Congratulations Jessica! Keep up the good work!
Age Friendly Raymond will be hosting and Rep. Fay will be moderating a Community forum to discuss the results of The Age-Friendly Community survey, specifically the area of transportation. The survey showed that people are concerned about the availability of transportation in our area. A panel of experts in transportation and age-friendly solutions will join us to answer questions about what is currently available and how other communities are solving these problems.
This will be a great opportunity for anyone who is interested in improving livability in the area to learn more and participate in the conversation, all ages are encouraged to participate!
What do we mean when we say transportation? What does it look like? What are others doing? What are your ideas?
The most important participant is you!

Our October meeting will be focused on the issue of transportation. Our community assessment identified transportation as a significant issue for Raymond residents. We will discuss what has been learned as a result of the Transportation forum being held on October 1st and what ideas we have for moving forward.

Now is the time to make plans to review your Medicare Drug Plans or Medicare Advantage plans. Mainers on Medicare are advised to make an appointment with their local Area Agency on Aging to review their options for 2020, because premiums and benefits may change.

Staff and volunteers at Southern Maine Agency on Aging (SMAA) are fully-trained, certified SHIP (State Insurance Health Program) counselors that can help you to navigate Medicare and the complexity in choosing drug plans with deductibles, copays and falling into the coverage gap (the so called the “donut hole”). This process can be confusing, time consuming, and involving many steps (including using the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid website)—let SMAA help. Last year SMAA counselors helped save clients an estimated $667,361 on their Medicare plan costs!

Any changes to Medicare Drug Plans or Medicare Advantage Plans need to be made during Medicare’s Open Enrollment period, which begins October 15 and ends December 7. Please note - there is now an additional Medicare Advantage Plan only enrollment/disenrollment period from January 1 to March 31.

SMAA is offering Open Enrollment sessions in locations throughout Southern Maine; please see the list below. Appointments are required and fill quickly— sign up today! Some evening appointments are available.

To schedule an appointment, call at 396-6524, or statewide, toll-free 877-353-3771. For the Bridgton Community Center please call 647-3116 directly FMI.
