BOMA At the Bowl: A PAC Fundraising Success | | Thank you to everyone who attended BOMA at the Bowl last month! | |
Councilmember Monica Rodriguez and LA City Attorney Hydee Feldstein Soto joined us for an evening of meaningful conversation and industry impact. By supporting the BOMA/GLA PAC, attendees helped ensure commercial real estate can:
✅ Defend against harmful policies.
✅ Support and elect officials who understand and champion our industry.
Thank you to everyone who invested in our PAC - your engagement strengthens the voice and future of commercial real estate.
| | | An Evening at BBQ, Bews & Bullseyes | We hope everyone had a blast networking and testing their aim at BBQ, Brews & Bullseyes! Thank you for joining us for great conversations, delicious bites, and some friendly axe-throwing competition. We can’t wait to see you at the next event! | | Building Skills Partnership: Investing in Workers, Strengthening CRE | |
This month, we celebrated the GJEP Graduation at Pasadena Towers, marking another milestone in our efforts to prepare building service workers with the skills and recognition they deserve. These graduations highlight the tangible impact of our workforce development programs, as participants gain the tools to advance in their careers and strengthen their communities.
We also completed the Floor Care Panels at the union office - five comprehensive panels developed over six months to enhance our training curriculum. These additions, including new carpet care modules, provide workers with more robust, hands-on skills that translate directly to their day-to-day work.
Finally, we have recently launched Advanced English for the Workplace classes at Century Plaza Towers (CPT), one of the original sites of the Justice for Janitors movement. These sessions help workers communicate more effectively with tenants, coworkers, and the public, improving both workplace efficiency and professional confidence. Across all our programs, we continue to focus on workforce development as the foundation for growth, opportunity, and equity in the building services industry. In addition, BSP participated as exhibitors at the Net Zero Conference, where we showcased our initiatives and spoke directly with attendees about the impact of GJEP. Visitors to our booth learned how our programs provide building service workers with essential skills, training, and career pathways, while also promoting sustainability and energy-efficient practices in the workplace.

Why did you join BOMA/GLA?
I joined BOMA/GLA for the mentorship and networking opportunities.
What is your favorite BOMA/GLA event and why? I loved the Burgers, Beers, and Bouquets event. I unleashed my creative side with fellow BOMA/GLA Rising Stars.
What do you love most about the commercial real estate industry?
I love commercial real estate because it shapes the heartbeat of a community. It’s about more than buildings - it’s about creating places where people live, work, eat, shop, and connect. I especially enjoy bringing life to everyday spots like cafés, markets, and shops that become part of people’s daily routines.
What advice would you give to someone new to the industry?
Be a sponge, be curious and be respectful.
What personal or professional project are you working on right now?
Right now, I’m diving into financial modeling courses so I can better advise clients on how deals impact long-term asset performance. This is part of my broader goal to add value beyond leasing.
| | Member Testimonial: Unlocking Possibility Through Partnership | | | | "Coming from a town of just 200 people, Los Angeles felt like an endless sea of opportunity. Through BOMA/GLA and its Young Leaders initiatives, I’ve had the chance to connect with an incredible network of professionals who have helped me better understand the unique fabric of this city. I hope to continue bringing my background in horticulture and design to enhance our city's green spaces through the cultivation of long-lasting partnerships. I am grateful to be part of an organization that values this collaboration above all else!" | |

| | What's Happening in Advocacy | | Collective Advocacy in Action: Stopping Harmful ULA Revisions | Over the past month we saw a true appetite for reforming disastrous Measure ULA (property transfer tax) in SB 423. With the support of our allies at CBPA and NAIOP-SoCal, BOMA/GLA was instrumental in preventing Measure ULA revisions that did not include class A commercial real estate. Without our collective voice this bill likely would have passed, and it would have cemented bad policy and locked us into positions that are extremely unfavorable for future property transfer taxes across Los Angeles County and the state. Thanks to our Government Affairs Committee who were quick to respond, and their feedback was swiftly integrated. | |
Also in September, we were thrilled to raise critical dollars for our Political Action Committee (BOMA/GLA PAC) at our marquee annual fundraising event – BOMA at the Bowl. Because of your support of the PAC, we are able to fund candidates and causes that reflect the vision of a safe urban core that we all share.
Looking ahead, we’ll be meeting with each of the LA County Board of Supervisors’ offices to encourage investments in public safety that balance compassion with accountability. We believe LA County should prioritize modern, safe, and rehabilitative facilities that protect the community while ensuring humane conditions for those in custody. We will also be addressing building decarbonization rules for existing large buildings and updates to Green Building Standards—emphasizing incentives and education over unfunded mandates.
| | Policy Committees in Action | Our Security and Emergency Preparedness Committee hosted an Active Shooter Preparedness Training at LA Center Studios, giving members hands-on experience with lifesaving techniques. Attendees practiced “Stop the Bleed” skills, learned the “Run-Hide-Fight” framework, and reviewed ways to spot and report early warning signs. The training equipped property professionals with practical steps to strengthen safety for their buildings, tenants, and staff. | Codes and Regulations Committee’s goal has been looking into how we can have access to info and a quick turn around with LADBS. Our committee received adaptive reuse updates from the Los Angeles City Planning Department, and the Mayor’s Office shared their perspective as well. | Our Sustainability Committee heard from Infinite Circulation Inc., who covered Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) systems, examining their pros and cons compared to traditional chilled water systems. We also discussed how they stacked up on energy efficiency and what property teams should consider when choosing between the two. | Capgemini joined our Property Technology Committee to showcase practical tools that help property professionals unlock the full potential of AI in their daily work. The presentation highlighted how solutions like Microsoft Copilot could streamline tasks, boost productivity, and simplify decision-making. Attendees left with actionable insights and cheat sheets to put these tools to work right away. | | BOMA on the Frontline - Featured Articles | | How Members Strengthened CRE Advocacy at BOMA at the Bowl | |
