October’s Celestial Flame: The Magic of Opal

Birthstone of the Month | Anniversary Gem for 14th & 18th Years

As the leaves turn and the air begins to crisp, October brings with it a gemstone unlike any other — the Opal, a kaleidoscope of color and light that has fascinated civilizations for thousands of years.

The Stone of Inspiration & Emotional Mastery

Opals are not just beautiful — they’re powerful. Known as stones of balance, opals enhance creativity, imagination, and spiritual insight. They are sensitive gemstones that reflect the emotional state of their wearer, which is why mindful energy and positive thoughts are essential when wearing them.

Whether used in meditation, dream work, or simply as a daily reminder to stay centered, opals are attuned to your intentions — magnifying the good, and gently mirroring what needs attention.

A Universe in Every Stone.

No two opals are ever the same. From the ethereal glow of white opals used in spiritual gazing, to the cooling calm of blue opals, and the fiery brilliance of the rare and coveted Fire Opal — each type tells a unique story.

Fire Opals, with their intense red-orange hues, are especially symbolic of passion, vitality, and joy, and are often linked to the ancient Aztecs, who believed they embodied the spirit of the Bird of Paradise. From Ancient Myths to Royalty

  • Zeus’s joyful tears, falling to Earth as opals, became Greek legends.
  • Romans prized them as symbols of luck and hope, second only to emeralds.
  • Arabians believed opals came to earth through lightning storms.
  • Queen Victoria adored them as wedding gifts of loyalty and spiritual devotion.

Even today, opal jewelry graces royal collections, cherished for its deep symbolism and unmatched beauty. A Gift for Milestones & Magic

Opal is not only the birthstone for October — it’s also the anniversary gem for the 14th and 18th years of marriage, making it the perfect gift for celebrating enduring love and creative partnership.

The Mellon Blue’ to Return to Auction, This Time at Christie’s

The 9.51-carat fancy vivid blue diamond, which set two world auction records

at Sotheby’s in 2014, is estimated to fetch up to $30 million.

A blue diamond once belonging to Rachel “Bunny” Lambert Mellon (1910-2014) is a highlight of Christie’s upcoming jewelry auction in Geneva.

Geneva—A record-breaking fancy vivid blue diamond once belonging to American horticulturalist, philanthropist, and art collector Rachel “Bunny” Lambert Mellon is returning to the auction block.

“The Mellon Blue,” a 9.51-carat pear-shaped diamond with internally flawless clarity, is estimated to achieve $20 million to $30 million at Christie’s Geneva in November.

The diamond, which was recently set as a ring, is a “rare expression of nature’s brilliance,” said Christie’s, remarkable for both its intense color and its extraordinary purity.

The piece will lead the Magnificent Jewels live sale, set to take place Nov. 11 at the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues in Geneva.

Mellon, who held the blue diamond in her possession for decades, was the second wife of wealthy horse breeder Paul Mellon.

In the 1960s, she redesigned the White House Rose Garden at the request of President John F. Kennedy, adding more open space and introducing American species of plants to the garden. She was also involved with design projects in France that included the home of Hubert de Givenchy and the gardens at the Chateau de Versailles.

Her refined taste extended from her interiors and gardens to her jewelry, Christie’s said.

She died in 2014 at the age of 103, and later that same year, the diamond was offered at a Sotheby’s sale of her property. It set two records when it sold for $32.6 million—price paid for a blue diamond and price per-carat for any diamond.

The diamond has not been seen publicly since that auction.

“This stunning fancy vivid blue diamond, once belonging to America’s Garden Queen, and is among the finest colored diamonds to appear for sale at auction,” said Christie’s International Head of Jewelry Rahul Kadakia.

Kadakia also noted that Christie's has sold nine of the top 10 jewels at auction in the first half of the year.

Prior to the Magnificent Jewels sale, The Mellon Blue will be displayed at Christie’s Hong Kong from Oct. 23-28, 2025, and from Nov. 7-1,2025, at the auction venue in Geneva.

Argenti Designer Jewelers Creates Jewelry Designs With Mined Diamonds And Lab Grown Diamonds. This Depends On The Clients Request.

Information Below About Lab Grown Diamonds

Mark Silver at Argenti Designer Jewelers designs in both mined and lab grown diamonds. Both diamond collections of bracelets, rings, necklaces and earrings are available in solid 14K yellow or white gold.

Lab-grown diamonds are diamonds with the same crystal structure, chemical composition, and physical properties as the mined rocks, their carbon atoms are arranged in a cubic crystal structure.

With the advancement in technology through the years, our lab-grown diamonds have the same crystal structure, chemical composition and physical properties as mined diamonds.

Lab Grown Diamond is the same as a mined diamond and an affordable luxury for all.

These diamonds are grown in labs, with advanced technological processes that stimulate and create the same conditions under which mined diamonds develop when they form in the mantle, beneath the Earth’s crust.

Lab grown diamonds looks exactly the same as mined diamonds, and the only difference is the origin of the creation. One being mined from the inner Earth and the other created in labs.

The lab diamonds are more environmentally friendly and an option to purchasing mined diamonds.

Lab Grown Diamonds Process

The easy process of creating a lab grown diamond begins with a thin slice of diamond seed that is placed in a sealed chamber. The chamber is filled with carbon rich-gas, such as Methane, and are ionized into plasma using lasers/microwaves technologies. Then the molecular bonds in the gases are broken and the pure carbon slowly crystallizes and sticks to the diamond seed. This process will take between 6-10 weeks to form a lab grown diamond.

We have laser-inscribed certification numbers on larger lab diamonds that are visible under a microscope.

In addition, our mined diamonds are graded and certified by GIA – Gemological Institute of America

as our assurance of excellent quality.

Our lab-grown diamonds are graded using the standard 4Cs method of assessing diamond quality. They all come with a certification of authenticity grading report. We provide the International Gemological Institute (IGI) certification for larger diamonds. Identification is important to us and is always a representation of our quality jewelry.
