Novel Noshes:
Book Club Requested Menus
Thanks to authors Thrity Umrigar and Allison Pataki who responded to book clubs' requests for food pairings!
Thrity Umrigar's novel Honor, is the story of an Indian-American journalist who reluctantly returns to India to report on the case of a Hindu woman attacked by members of her community for marrying a Muslim man.

From Thrity Umrigar: "I would suggest buying samosas from an Indian restaurant, and buying bhel mix packages from an Indian grocery. Also, a jar of date chutney. Chop onions and cilantro to add to the mix along with the chutney. Serve with black tea."
Allison Pataki's The Magnificent Lives of Marjorie Merriweather Post is a historical novel about the American businesswoman, socialite, philanthropist, and owner of General Foods Corporation.

From Allison Pataki: “My brain just keeps screaming 'CEREAL'; any Post cereal! A larger breakfast theme could be fun: eggs, bacon, cereal, oatmeal, toast, and orange juice. Marjorie loved to serve ‘Adirondack Pie’—homemade pancakes with maple sugar, syrup, and whipped cream— to her guests at Camp Topridge. Since Marjorie gave the world Grape Nuts cereal, I like the idea of GrapeNut Pudding. Marjorie also gave the world Birdseye Frozen Foods, so work frozen vegetables or fruit into a side dish. And, she owned Jell-O and frequently served it at her dinner parties, so Jell-O would be a perfect addition. And Marjorie was well-known for abstaining from alcohol, so some fun ‘mock-tails’ with orange or grapefruit juice or lemonade with non-alcoholic bubbly could be a fun nod to the Hostess with the Most!”
