Dear Beloved Community,
This coming Sunday, we will gather for one of my favorite Sundays of the year: World Communion Sunday. On this day, Christians from every corner of the globe will share in the same holy meal, breaking the bread and drinking the cup.
As disciples of Christ, we belong to a global body that transcends languages, politics, and differences. Christ’s love knows no boundaries or borders. At the table, there is no “us” and “them”—only God’s children, beloved and invited.
This first Sunday in October also marks our 11th anniversary together! Eleven years! That number feels both hard to believe and wonderfully full.
So much has happened in 11 years—joy and celebration, uncertainty and change, hard conversations, new beginnings, laughter, tears, worship, ministry, and countless ordinary moments that have become part of our story together.
You have welcomed me into your lives, trusted me with your stories, allowed me to walk with you through some of life’s most sacred moments, and reminded me again and again what it means to be the church. Walking together through the hills and valleys. Thank you for welcoming me—and all of my family—into this place we call church.
We are not a church that has everything figured out. I think that’s part of what makes us a church. We are learning, discerning, trying new things, sometimes getting it right and hoping to learn from when we don’t.
You have seen my rough edges and I have seen some of yours. And through it all, we keep coming back to the heart of our faith: God’s love is bigger than our differences, Christ’s table has room for everyone, and the Spirit is still at work among us.
Thank you for your trust, humor, honesty, patience, generosity, and your willingness to keep seeking what God is calling us to do next. I am grateful for these 11 years. And I am grateful that we get to see what comes next—together.
This Saturday, October 3, I'll be in Newton NC, attending the Annual Meeting of the Western NC Association of the UCC. I'm so happy to represent you in this gathering of UCC churches!
I hope you will join us in worship this Sunday.
With love and gratitude,
Elizabeth

New-to-Us Bibles
Have you noticed the pew racks have a new Bible? The church I served in Winston Salem, First UCC, sold its building along with its contents this spring. From this First Reformed was able to receive 42 Large Print NRSV Bibles.

Neighbors In Need Special Offering
Donations accepted during the month of October 2026
Gifts to Neighbors in Need support the United Church of Christ’s ministries of justice and compassion throughout the United States. One-third of NIN funds support the Council for American Indian Ministry (CAIM). The other two-thirds of the offering support a variety of justice initiatives, advocacy efforts, direct service projects, and grants. Neighbors in Need grants are annually awarded to UCC churches and organizations doing justice work in their communities.

Sunday Adult Bible Study
(Meet in Parlor Sundays - 9:30am)
October Bible Study
Breaking The Code
starting Oct. 18th
By Bruce Metzger & David deSilva
| | The Book of Revelation contains passages of great beauty and comfort, as well as passages that strike the casual reader as bizarre, bewildering, and sometimes frightening. Regrettably, there are those who have misinterpreted a 1st century message, written for a believer’s movement in crisis, as a vengeful prophecy for the 21st century, where God and Jesus are violently involved with the destruction of the world, as we know it. There are those who have been duped by a bad End Times theology, and it’s time to fix that! Join us for a 6-session study of BREAKING THE CODE by Bruce Metzger & David deSilva. Join us as we reclaim a vision of God’s healing love for our world, where we don’t seek to revenge it or escape it, but seek to change it for the better. The Adult Bible Study group invites you to join us on Sundays at 9:30 am, October 18th - November 22nd. (Participant guides for the study will be made available for $10. We will be using a dvd-prompted resource for our sessions, as well.) | | Music At First Reformed UCC | | | | |

Pastor's Pantry Holiday Boxes
Canned Corn Drive from Oct. 4 - Nov. 8
First Reformed UCC will again be collaborating with other churches and organizations to provide canned goods for Pastor's Pantry for their Holiday Boxes.
These boxes provide a meal for seniors in our community that are food insecure. Our church will be collecting 500 cans of corn. This will be collected between October 4 thru November 8. Please bring on Sundays to the Sanctuary or drop off at the church office on Thursdays and Fridays.
| | | | |
Our Church has always met the 500 cans needed - let's do it again this year!

Meals and Rides for June
Thank you to all the volunteers who signed up to drive June to her appointments and take her food. Although the cancer center gave her an overall calendar, they confirm it on Friday for the following week. Cathy will send out a reminder each weekend for the coming week and let you know if any appointment times change. You are a wonderful and caring group of people and June appreciates all of your help!
