FALL TOWN CLEAN UP

Mark your calendars! Fall Town Clean Up is scheduled for the weekend of November 5th. Details to follow.

UPDATE FROM THE PARKS LEVY COMMITTEE

In 2019, King County voters approved a levy measure allocating funds over a five-year period to be used for the acquisition of and/or enhancement of features for public benefit. Over the last months, the Village Parks Levy Committee has met to gather ideas, review community input, evaluate suggestions, research details and establish approximate costs of implementation.

The Committee narrowed the list of ideas to four for serious consideration:

  1. Enhance the slope along 108th. This project would address the on-going issue of soil sloughing onto the path and involve removing invasive growth & installing native plants. Since this project also includes private property, implementation may prove challenging.
  2. The Glen Path project would include installing a hose bib, removal of invasive plants (laurel, blackberry, holly etc.) and installation of native shrubs and plants.
  3. The creation of Educational Materials could assume a variety of topics and means of sharing: Village history, wildlife, trees, walking tours etc.
  4. Build a stairway from the south street-end of 102nd Avenue SE down to the south beach hill road. This would enable pedestrian access to the stairway at 103rd Avenue SE north street end.

Should the Town not pursue the 108th project, the Parks Levy Committee recommends both enhancing the Glen Path AND developing educational materials.

More community input is desired! If you have opinions and/or suggestions concerning any of the above-mentioned ideas, please e-mail Paula Dix.

GREAT SHAKE OUT

While much of Washington State will hold their Great Shake Out drills on October 20th, the Town plans to conduct its own version on Saturday October 22nd, when more people are available to participate. To participate in this drill, please meet at 10:22am near the mail stand at 5 Corners for further instructions. (Councilmembers who are in Town on that date are reminded to respond with their emergency backpacks.)

COUNCIL BUSINESS

The Council met on Tuesday September 13, 2022 to discuss the following:

  • Final review of a Capital Improvement Plan and Transportation Improvement Program (CIP / TIP) for 2023 through 2028. The Council held a public hearing on this matter and then passed Ordinance No. 458 adopting the CIP / TIP as updated.
  • King County Historic Preservation Program. The Council reviewed the Planning Commission’s proposed ordinance that would allow Villagers access to King County’s many historic-preservation resources for preserving historic homes, including tax benefits. After the Town Attorney completes a review of the proposed ordinance, the Planning Commission will hold a public hearing so Villagers can review and comment on it.
  • Maintenance Shed Update. Construction is now complete. Town staff is working to get the new spaces organized and useable. A big thank you to neighbors in the vicinity of this work for their patience throughout the long process.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT

All necessary permits were issued last month for:

  • 2804 107th Ave SE: building permit
  • 2820 105th Ave SE: mechanical permit
