October CCAA Counselor Corner (CCC):
Important Fall Updates For You
Fall is officially upon us and we hope this edition of the CCAA Counselor Corner (CCC) finds you healthy and well. For many of us fall means the leaves are changing, the weather is cooling down, and the countdown to Thanksgiving break has begun.

In between picking out pumpkins and raking leaves, the fall also brings different traditions for those of us in college admissions. It means early application deadlines, long lists of recommendation letters that need to be written, PSAT administration, college representative visits, and meetings with worried parents and stressed-out students. Did we mention all the deadlines?!

We know you're short on time this time of year, so we've kept our fall edition as short and informative as possible. Keep reading to find details about our first virtual counselor town hall meeting of the school year, announcements from the National CCAA Board of Directors, a recap of the Houston NACAC conference, and a list of the four new Catholic colleges and universities that have joined our growing list of member institutions for the 2022-23 year.

Whether you're at the beginning, middle, or end of your growing to-do list this fall, we wish you luck and hope that you'll be able to enjoy a glass of apple cider and possibly jump in a leaf pile or two along the way.

Thank You Houston!
Thank you to all of our counseling colleagues who visited us at the National CCAA's exhibit booth and to those who attended our annual Catholic Colleges Reception during the 2022 NACAC Conference in Houston last month.

We were thrilled to have the chance to say hello to so many of our colleagues in person and had fun seeing everyone mingle and dance with the dinosaurs at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. View the reception photobooth snapshots here.

Thank you to the city of Houston for such a great NACAC conference! And a big thank you to all of our National CCAA reception sponsors who made our fun activities possible through their generous sponsorships.

News From the National CCAA Board of Directors
While in Houston last month, we held our Annual Membership Meeting and were thrilled to see so many of our National CCAA members in attendance after meeting virtually the past few years. During the meeting, our guest speaker, Dr. Gabriel Velez, Assistant Professor and Developmental Psychologist at member institution, Marquette University (Milwaukee, WI), gave an interactive and informative presentation about his research on the effects of the pandemic on high school students. Click here for the PowerPoint slides that Dr. Velez shared. If you would like a Zoom recording of Dr. Velez's presentation, which also includes the entirety of the membership meeting, please reply to this email, and it will be sent to you.

We are also proud to announce the results of the election of new National CCAA officers, which were announced during our membership meeting. These dedicated board members will join National CCAA President Dean Kilgour, Assistant Vice President for Strategic Enrollment Initiatives, Mount Saint Mary's University (Los Angeles, CA), and Past-President Jean Marie Cox, Assistant Vice President of Enrollment and Dean of Admission, Saint Louis University (Saint Louis, MO) in board leadership positions.

As the school year is in full swing at our member campuses across the country and the world, there are many different celebrations taking place this fall. This week, many of our National CCAA members are celebrating National Transfer Student Week 2022. Taking place from October 17-21, schools will celebrate transfer students and the professionals who support them on their journeys. The theme of this year's NTSW is "Plug Into Transfer."

According to the National Institute for the Study of Transfer Students, this annual event is held every third week of October with the goal of "challenging assumptions, building empathy, and instilling transfer pride" across campuses.

Take a look at what some of our National CCAA members have planned for the week:

  • Gwynedd Mercy University: Gwynedd Mercy University will host a week of events celebrating transfer students. The schedule includes an ePortfolio Workshop, career development presentation, Swag Swap, and lots of treats and prizes.
  • Le Moyne College: Le Moyne College is celebrating transfer students with a week full of events. Events planned for the week include community college visits and transfer information fairs, a bag drive to benefit the Campus Cupboard, Swag Swaps, sporting events, and a haunted hayride.
  • Mount St. Joseph University: Mount St. Joseph University will celebrate transfer students this week with opportunities to hear from their "Transfer Champions" and by hosting "transfer preview" events and information sessions to share more information with prospective transfer students.

If there are any topics you'd like to see covered in an upcoming Transfer Corner section of our e-newsletter, please email the Transfer Taskforce.
Congratulations to the 2022 National CCAA First-Year and Transfer Scholarship Recipients
The National CCAA First-Year Scholarship is offered annually to college-bound high school seniors attending one of the National CCAA member institutions in the fall, while The National CCAA Transfer Scholarship is offered annually to current students attending a two-year college or university who will have completed 30 or more credit hours by the end of the previous spring semester and will be attending a National CCAA member institution as a transfer student in the fall.

For Fall 2022, we were able to award 16 one-time $1,000 First-Year Scholarships and four one-time $1,000 Transfer Scholarships. Meet the 2022 National CCAA Scholarship recipients here.
